I do think a bad and violent end is probably in store for Fred, sooner or later.

Oh I know most Baptists (hell, most people) are not at all like Fred. My next door neighbor is a Baptist and she is a total sweetie. 

In fact it makes me wonder what qualifies as a church, in terms of tax laws and legal stuff. Because this IMO is no church. It is a cover for a Hate Crime organization.

Well, Fred sees a flimsy (or rather a strong, and I don't see any) connection, in that he contends that God has been unhappy with humans, ever since gays and lesbians were given more "freedom" to serve in the military, under Clinton's "Don't ask, don't tell" policy.

Of course he hated homosexuals, transgendered folk, etc. before then, but he got extra loud and virulent after that.

His contention is that this whole tragedy at VA Tech would not have occurred at all if God was happier with mankind, and it's a general "sign" that humans need to "repent" and see the error of their ways (but mostly just "homos" really). Ditto for the war in Iraq (especially since our military has homosexual soldiers).

I really am surprised someone has not had him committed to a mental health care facility somewhere. But, it's a free country, and the Klan gets to operate, so why not Fred and his followers, I guess. It is mostly the church idea that really gets me.

I do really wonder how any group gets to qualify as a church. If there are any people out there who know, please write in, I am curious.

Thats pretty much it - everyone is damned (but him and his flock of course) because society and the law has changed to be more accepting of gay men, lesbian women etc. The whole nation, indeed all of western culture is damned because this angers his God, clearly indicated by the downturn in fortunes of all of western culture- both at the macro and micro scales.

But his source for this interpretation of the world, the Bible, also makes it just as clear that the Jews are evil; therefore he should see as much of the cause of our decline as directly connected with the the move in society away from treating them as pariahs, surely?

Mind you, I guess holding up a sign saying "God hates Jews" rather than "God hates fags" might get him into a little more trouble.

Good point, Lady Ellen: He is a won drous hypocrite. No church I know of promotes hatred in such an active fashion. He has been deemed by more than one repuatable psychiatrist, to be a delusional megalomaniac (who would have guessed?), along the same lines as Jim Jones (if anyone here remembers that guy).

Fortunately he has fewer followers, and so far, he hasn't urged them to jump off a cliff, or to drink poisonous Kool-Aid to get to heaven early. So - things could be worse, I guess. They could also be a lot better, IMO. I just get tired of seeing a spot re: His "church" and his ranting about every month on my local news. Sorry to whine, it just makes me mad, and gets really old, after awhile.

Yeah, what is it with Baptists?
I had a neighbor lady who was a Baptist minister and anytime someone in the neighborhood did anything she didn't like she'd raise her right arm in the "Heil Hitler" salute and scream "YOU'RE GOING TO HELLLLLLLLLLL!"
One time she was "preaching" on my front lawn so I went out, dropped trou, and nut flapped her! The neighbors were roaring!
I finally had it with her and superglued a big pink dildo to my front porch which was right next to hers and she went Ballistic! lol
Hey, wouldn't it be funny if a bunch of Cross Dressers protested this guy and his followers, strutting their stuff, shaking their dicks at them!

These people are absolutely vile. They are sadists and I don’t mean in the fun, BDSM, manner. They truly get off on inflicting pain (and emotional pain is far worse than physical pain) on others.

I agree whole heartedly with the idea of just blocking them off from the funeral. A large group of people should just surround them, and turn their backs toward them. They should say nothing and not otherwise react these so called Christians – just prevent them from practicing their cruelty. If this happens often enough and they eventually catch on that can’t get a rise out of people anymore, they will wander away and look for butterflies so they can pull off their wings.

If there is truly justice in the afterlife, Fred Phelps will spend eternity moping up the floors in Heaven’s gay bath house.

People like this don't strike me as dangerous. They only become dangerous, when we give them some kind of power.
 
Someone that hates homosexuals needs no help in doing so; they might need the "strength of numbers" but, they already hate so, he's not "winning hearts and minds".

       Makes you wish these folk ( http://thesisters.org/ ) would decide to protest any sort of event the Westboro Baptists might have.  Weddings, baptisms, funerals, the Wednesday Night Hate.

     Let's find out if they can handle being protested with the same respect for speech they demand from their victims.

I'm reminded of the Aryan Nations.  They weren't stopped until their skinhead guards assaulted a husband and wife.  They then sued the Aryan Nations and succeded in bankrupting the organization.  Everything went to the couple--land, assets, and even the name "aryan nations."  I could see something similar happening here if they cross the line into civil liability.

They don't just hate gay people, or the war, they hate anyone who is not a westboro baptist. And say they all will burn in hell and events like this are Gods way of punishing they are NUTS. There is a group of motorcyclers that usually park their bikes and rev the engeines in from of them so the families don't have to hear there craziness.

Luci, I superglued that Dildo to the front porch rail, I can just picture "Mr. Holy Roller" trying to get it off, yanking on it repeatedly.
And when the cops came I knew on of them and she told me that a "rookie" was in their house with my "Hood Ornament" in his hand.

WBC is really just the Phelps extended family at this point. The big hangup is that virtually all the adults are lawyers and even though Fred has been disbarred from the state bar most of his kinfolk haven't. So if you or a government official does anything to keep these sleazy cretins from spewing their filth they will sue and with a dozen lawyers working on the case for free they will quickly bury the target in paper and make his/her life an endless cycle of depositions and motions hearings.

The bikers really have the best solution, don't hve any actual contact with the WBC nuts but simply show up and drown them out and block the sightlines between them and the funeral or whatever event WBC is protesting.

As I understand the Judeo-Christian bible, their god is supposed to be a god of love and his son all about forgiveness and the bringing of all sinners to redemption through love and forgiveness.  Hmmm.....  so this would make the whole www.godhatesfags.com thing an oxymoron, no?  Kinda like the way the KKK screams how they hate the jew yet proudly proclaim to be faithful followers of Christ (a Jewish man). 
  How are the actions of the Woodies considered protected speech and right to peacably assemble when they are clearly in violation of Hate Crime laws?  What are some of your thoughts?

it is harrassment. disorderly conduct. crude.

likewise- i dont feel phelps ppls funerals ought to be protested.

a grieving family has a right to grieve in peace- with out- a person or group turning such into a free for all.

it has nothing to do with gay.

everyone here- will experience the death of a friend or loved one. you have a right to grieve with out any harrassment what-so-ever.

he has a right to his opinion. he does not have the right to disrupt a civil funeral.

Oh, them.  I am so sick of seeing these guys.  I live in West Virginia near the Sago mines and those assholes came here with that bullshit when the mine explosion happened.  I want to know what twisted version of the bible they're using to get their rhetoric.  Not so say I'm much of a church goer but I've read a few versions and don't remember any of it saying hate thy brother....assholes.

My two next door neighbors are lesbian college professors who are not at all fond of Fred. Perhaps this is one reason I am updated consistently on his comings and goings, etc. Anyway, thanks for the feed-back. I feel a lil' less ticked off about this now. I am not even gay, I just don't appreciate super small-minded types - especially when they add cruelty to the mix.

For the record, no way do I consider this a real church. He makes every true Baptist I've ever talked to about him shudder. So, even if there are some out there who are more dedicated than others, no offense to any real Baptists out there, no way do I connect them w/this guy.
