I prefer toys that deliver a deep concentrated sting to small areas, so paddles are probably my least favorite toys, although i love my small leather paddle and the flat side of a short handled wooden brush........

from what i hear crops are worse, but a ping pong paddle is not going to do much damage. oh yes, also it depends on the swing. happy beatings!! :P
