CHAPTER 1:
I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost...I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.

CHAPTER 2:
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in, again.
I can't believe I am in this same place
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes a long time to get out.

CHAPTER 3:
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in...it's a habit...but, my eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault.
I get out immediately.

CHAPTER 4:
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.

CHAPTER 5:
I walk down a different street.

Very nice.  Although some probably still won't understand what you are trying to say.

Have a great night,

Is this in regards to people making the same mistakes continually?

I have a nasty habit of finding deep holes on my new streets as well... but yes, I see the point. Every new street has its own potholes.

Not always; sometimes we make brand new mistakes!

You have read my mind. I actually was going to look this up earlier today and post it to my LJ. I'm in a very low cycle at the moment...

For some  it is easier to be in the same hole than to walk down a different street, yet they continue to complain about that hole rather than get a bucket and fill it up.  No one said life was meant to be easy.

Well said I enjoyed reading it

I would suggest, as does the op, that many of the "brand new mistakes" are truly based on the same mistake just done slightly differently

There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
i see it is still there
i trip you, and you tumble in
i smile evily
i am just glad it's not me for a change
i wonder how you'll manage to ge out

Hee hee...made me laugh.

I've been accused of digging up holes in a perfectly good street.  Huh.

Now where is that shovel....

I just filled up that hole and tampered it down.
The view is much nicer from the top.  Think I'll stay up here forever.

I read that many years ago when I went through counciling for co-dependancy.  It was good then too.

While I certainly understand this sentiment and often feel the same way because attitude is SO important, I feel compelled to remind that sometimes, you simply can't see the alternatives. Sometimes, you're in the hole so deep that nothing else exists. Thankfully, we have modern chemistry and psychology to help us. I ask that, while you dislike the actions of these people, don't forget that they are people, hurting, on the inside. Have compassion, as much as you can.

i agree with you 100% MasterFire but unless you have been down that hole yourself no amount of explaining will ever be sufficient for some people to understand.

BTW, CT, this poem is entitled, "There's A Hole in My Sidewalk" by Portia Nelson.
