slaveaurora -> collared vs owned (4/22/2007 6:46:11 PM)

Master and I were discussing this yesterday and I thought I would ask here and see what everyone's views are.

Is there a difference between being owned and being collared?
Or are they the same thing?

Can one be owned and not collared?
Can one be collared and not owned?

I am just curious as to what your thoughts are on this..

myobedience -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 7:18:02 PM)

Mind you, these are my opinions..........
I am not a "collared" type of thinker.  I dont think a collar is anything but an outward symbol when in the company of other lifestyle folk .... that being said, my former Dom NEVER associated with anyone in lifestyle, my present Dom does.  Sir is not into the symbolization of collars either...but he will use a dog collar and leash in play.
That being said ..... your following questions are mute.

Can one be owned and not collared?
Can one be collared and not owned?

Is there a difference between being owned and being collared?
Or are they the same thing?

But in response to these questions... I am owned and I have no need of an outward symbol to prove to anyone, let alone him or I, that I am his  and ONLY his.

I have found that folk into protocol like the symbolization and there are some who are into all the different types of collars ... consideration, training, blah blah.

We must not forget the ever present VELCRO collars too !!  [:D]

spanklette -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 7:29:03 PM)

I, certainly, can't answer for anyone but myself...I am Owned, but not collared. He has let me know that I will be collared in the next few months...He has Owned me for over 2 years. This collar, to us, is tantamount to a wedding ring.

My only other collar was also given when I was Owned, although that one employed a contract.

On a side note, given that everyone employs different methods...I am sure that there are those that fit in any of the categories that you have described. It's just up to the dynamic that the "partners" are seeking.

twistedkytten -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 7:32:15 PM)

I am completely owned, yet I am not collared there is not a need for one, though the feel of one when He is away helps ease the ache of the distance.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 7:42:40 PM)

i'm owned, chained and collared by Daddy in that particular order of succession.  my collaring represents my acceptance and committment until death do we part (just like a wedding ring).

To some yes, to some no.  As always, just ask before assuming.

Yes.

Yes.

Generally, ownership is considered a state of being within a relationship.

Collared generally tends to be a statement of going through a specific act of having a collar placed upon you.

But, many people consider themselves collared without the element of ownership, and many people consider themselves owned without ever putting on a collar.

Asraii -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 8:45:56 PM)

I think it depends on the people involved. I have been collared and owned; owned but not collared; but never collared and unowned.

Kinkypupper -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 8:48:59 PM)

No difference at all a "collar" is just a symbol. It may in fact not be a physical collar at all.
To some it is a outward symbol for others to regognise and respect.
To some wearers its a constant reminder of who they are.

Leigha23 -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 9:38:30 PM)

is it best to start and commence with one over the other?

Nope.

What matters is that everyone is informed and understanding of the expectations involved, and commits to those.

What you call it or what rituals you apply to it just depends on personal preference.

crouchingtigress -> RE: collared vs owned (4/22/2007 11:05:31 PM)

to each his/her own

AquaticSub -> RE: collared vs owned (4/23/2007 1:44:17 AM)

I am owned without being collared. I will be collared at some point, probably after Valyraen decides he wants to marry me.

tsatske -> RE: collared vs owned (4/23/2007 2:56:56 AM)

I take the word 'collared' to be different from 'collar'. A collar is an outward symbol, like a wedding ring. Or, it can be a toy for use at playtime only -- like a collar and leash that come off when you are done with them.
I have, in the past, considered myself 'collared' without having a specific 'collar' that was being refereed to by the term.
To me, 'owned' and 'collared' mean nearly the same thing, although I could be 'owned' in a relationship that has not progressed to what I think of as 'collared', I suppose. I can understand, at least, the people who say they are owned, and will be collared only later. The only thing I would have with separating the two states is how deeply I submit, as a TPE, when I am owned.

Greetings aurora,

Just depends upon the lifestyle that you wish to embrace, there are many types of steel and non steel relationships that are around on the earth.  Like LA has discussed, and even puella and allyC if they want to chip in, because these females just have the bloody library or dictionary in their heads....just chuckles away right now.

I will just define it in MY EYES, simple.

A collar can be placed upon you within any relationship, whether it be a Dom/sub or Domme/sub or Master/sub or Master/slave or a Gorean relationship.  All of these have different types of embracement within their structure of the life that they wish to lead.  You can be a submissive and have a Dom/me or Master and not have a collar on, because of work or family, but does that mean you are not totally with that person in your heart ?  It would be ..no.

If you are owned, it becomes a state of totally giving over your whole life to another.  What they do to your body, like placing steel around your neck or even tattoing your body, is up to them.  For being owned you as the slave, as this would only pertain to slavery, would have no rights.  Your money would be the owner's money, your assets would be your owner's assets as so forth.  Being owned has you go upon a level of deepness within the relationship.  Now people say that slavery does not exist, but it does, within the mind.  If you totally believe that you are owned in the state, and can really only be owned as a slave, in your mind.  The steel around your neck enforces it, the tinkling of it as you tap it.

There are many types of notions of the relationship that can occur.  Some believe it as the Mills and Boon types, the BDSM types and the Gor types.  They all clash, they all intertwine with each other.  The bottom line is that not everyone can live YOUR life, YOU can only live it.  The relationship between YOU and your OWNER is up to you, but mostly Him.  If you accept it, then so be it, if you don't, then there should be no skin off the nose.  If you place a 100 people in the room, your percentage of getting answers that are compatible with each other would be rare.  I would say that out of the 100, you would get about 80 different answers.  Does that mean they are wrong, no.  It means that the way their life has evolved that is how they live..

This reply has been in my eyes of the lives and years that I have been living.  People may not like my answers, may not like how I wish to live, but that is them.  You have to do the same.  Make the decision, embrace and stick with it.

Be well.

Frank Ar.

Celeste43 -> RE: collared vs owned (4/23/2007 4:22:53 AM)

I consider myself collared and unowned. Because to me owned implies slavery and I'm not one. I'm a collared sub. Semantics really, when you look at it but one word is more acceptable to me than the other.

slaveaurora -> RE: collared vs owned (4/23/2007 4:25:43 AM)

~fast reply~

Thank you for your replys..   I was pretty sure there would be a range of answers, and I am glad there was.

I have been with Master for 7 yrs real time, and i have always known that I was owned and collared, however I don't wear a collar most of the time.    I guess for me it is more a state of mind than anything.
I did ask Master this question the other night just to make sure things were still the same... and they are.

The reason for the question was I saw somewhere in a profile that the Master might own another slave, but would never collar one, and that sparked the question.

Thanks again for your replys...  :)

I have to admit. I never took this perspective into account.

When someone is owned but not collared, that's called being Karl Malowned.
