ginger21 -> a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (4/29/2005 1:22:00 AM)

My Master and i are gonna start corset training soon-as a matter of fact he took my measurements and is ordering me a custom corset online. It's a little underbust number. i would like an overbust corset and as i absolutely love the look of them, i couldn't wait to order one for myself- then, i found out that it would cost upwards of $250 (and broke ass college students like myself don't have that kind of dough)!

So i've got 2 questions. 1) Does anyone know where i can get a decent quality corset for less than $200 and 2) Should i just wait until my Master wants to buy me one (He said one day i'd get one, and it's not something i'm expecting, i just really want one)?

This woman makes beautiful garments, to your measurements. I have purcahsed 1 corset and other wear from her. It has always been top quality, and not such a long wait for overseas shipping

If you have any sewing skills they aren't hard to make. They just take some time and paitence.

Or you could look into to some costume shops or theatres... they use corsets all the time, they might be willing to sell you a used one or have someone on staff make one for you.

Thank you all for your suggestions, i'll be sure to check 'em out.

Now, i'm not too great at sewing, but my mom is. She told me she'd help me sew, but she thinks it's funny that i want a corset. She wonders why i want my knockers pushed up to my chin...if she only knew. X)

Anyway, i know of a site where you can buy a corset making kit. Does anyone have experience with these or can anyone tell me what they contain?

ginger21 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/1/2005 7:35:43 PM)

Also, if i want one that i can make nice and tight, but not necessarily use it for tightlacing purposes, it is still a good a idea to buy a fashion one?

Depending on how it is made it doesn't matter. You can always buy different laces for the corset...

Honestly, i don't know much about corsetry- the laces really play that big of a role? I mean, i'm sure it's safe to assume that laces made of shoe lace type stuff would be stronger than ribbon (but not as cute ^_^), but from all the reading i've done, it seems people make a pretty big deal about discerning whether or not a corset is "tightlacing appropriate".

ILovePain13 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/10/2005 7:38:06 PM)

The differences in fashion corsets and tightlacing is the number of panels, amount and strength of the boning, and partially the styles (where the boning stops on ur bod). I personally will never use plastic boning for any of my corsets not matter how tight i'm lacing them, I'm a steel kinda gal.

ginger21 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/10/2005 8:35:54 PM)

Tell me about it!

My Master had me buy a really pretty corset from Frederick's. Boy, was I diappointed with its performance. I found out that the boning in it was plastic and it couldn't hold up to the weight of my boobies. We went to this BDSM party and my nipples were just about out by the end of the night (and not b/c we wanted them to be).

I feel like it fit pretty well for it to be off the rack, but it is also the first corset I've ever put on. I look forward to getting me a custom one this summer. ^_^

to ILovePain- do you make corsets? From your response, it would seem that you do. And if you do, are they fairly easy to sew and does it matter what kind of material it's made from?

siamsa24 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/10/2005 8:52:08 PM)

I actually found one at Victoria's Secret clearance sale about 5 years ago, I think I paid $40 for it.

This is the back:

ginger21 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/10/2005 9:59:33 PM)

That's really cute, but I don't know if it'd work with my boobies.

siamsa24 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/11/2005 5:38:27 AM)

They had it in many different sizes, with breast size being taken into consideration, but that was years ago. All I know is that it may be worth looking into, that picture was taken a few months ago (the corset is almost 5 years old) and it's in wonderful shape.

Sewing one is a great idea, I wish I had access to a sewing machine, it would make searching for clothing for may funny-shaped body much easier, lol

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: a good, affordable corset? *scoff* (5/11/2005 6:08:03 AM)

Corsets really are one of those things that price tends to equal quality.

There is a seller on Ebay that offers well made leather corsets in plus sizes in a variety of styles for between 99-150ish. A friend of mine purchased one and is very happy with it. It fits well and is well made. You might want to look into these.

If you want it to do anything, don't get a fashion corset.

Also, if you're large-chested, you are probably going to want a custom corset, which means it -will- be expensive. My corsets are all underbusts, because i can't afford the 200+ to get one fitted such that I won't get shelf boobs.

I'd write out all my recomendations, but http://www.livejournal.com/community/corsetry has everything you need there. Check the memories, first, but there are also several WONDERFUL corsetiers that sell their stuff through there.
