We had five kittens born on Easter morning, born to a stray we adopted. All was well for a while, but Saturday and Sunday, we lost two, and another last night. Our vet says it's probably FKS (Fading Kitten Syndrome) caused by type A kittens born to a type B mother.

I'm really down today ... the past few days really. We are taking the rest to the vet this afternoon. I have a picture of the kittens ... if anyone wants it, email on the other side. I was going to make it my profile picture, but the mods killed that idea.

Apologies to anyone I've been a biatch to in the past two day.

This is a pretty good link.

http://www.netcat.org/symposium/fading-kittens.html

We will know more later. Our vet says there has been a lot of NI in this area, because lots of strays seem to have blood type B. Going to the vet is a crummy reason to skip class.

The mother cat seems to be ok ... she is hanging with the two remaining, who look healthy. We are hoping our vet is right, because the three that passed were all striped cats with orange, and the two remaining are both black. We sort of know who the father of the two remaining is, since he comes around here to drink pool water now and then. The one's that passed are probably from another father.

We lost a cat last year (another stray we adopted) and I made this nice pet cemetary in the corner of the yard with a stone statue of St. Francis. I'm about to go bury my third kitten in three days. I'm burying them and putting big paving stones on top. We have cat mint growing over that area and a big shade tree over there ... it's kind of nice. I'm sure getting tired of making it bigger.

Two comments ~

You are aware of the tainted pet food? If not please google it.

Perhaps you could bottle feed the babies
(very young kittens need manual assistance to pass their wastes... a tummy rub with a wet washcloth)

Wishing you all the best in this you are doing
