I think maybe my own personal definition of the two might be "off" from others' conceptions of them.

I think to a degree we all have our own slant on definitions of words or phrases and you have stated what you mean by the terms so thus people can understand your post from your point of view. There is nothing wrong with what you posted... it works for you two and that is what counts.

I, myself use the terms differently... humiliation is the lesser of the two terms when I use them and I do enjoy making a sub squirm once it is in a good way. It can be very freeing for someone to work through the embarrassment and realise they can do something they thought they couldn't. It can also be used to put someone into the right space as mentioned before. For example I've made a sub strip but keep his socks on.... a tame thing but it got him over a vanity issue.

Degredation has negative connotations to me so I dont use the word to describe what I do but if you look, what I call humiliation you call degredation so to me the important thing is that when talking to people you explain what a term means to you and listen to what it means to them.

No, I'm not a lowly piece of shit, and he has never called me that, or any kind of name calling other than "slut" with varying adjectives.

This is interesting. I don't see the word slut as degrading (when we take your perspective of degradation as lowering of rank). I can totally see how it would work though. But you see, I will identify at times as a slut, because I am a woman who is highly sexual and makes no bones about it. So yes, I think we really have to realise that words have different meanings to different people. Some of us realised that a long time ago.

Please don't feel that you should have never put the original post up. I think it was a wonderful idea. I love discussing perspectives!

Humiliation is the process of lowering a person's pride, dignity, or self-esteem, often by encouraging him to see himself as foolish, contemptible, or worthless.

Degradation is the process of lowering a person's rank, status, value, or worth – "de-grading" him – usually in someone else's eyes and often, thereby, in his own. This is how degradation may frequently lead to humiliation.

Hmmmmmm both sound like fun to Me.
