my Master calls me DGE (Dirty Girl Extreme), i am not too sure how the name came about but Master likes it and i am used to it now so much that when He says my real name, i feel like i am in trouble or something.

hello M

my master renamed me when he collared me. but he is Gorean and that is the tradition. i used to be a "free woman" and my given name was who i "used" to be. when he renamed me i became property, forsaking my old self and becoming his slave. i am pleased with the name he chose. it means firey in gaelic. i am a scottish lass so it suites me well. The name was one he actually had considered giving his daughter. so to him, it was something that was intimate.

i use my given name at work due to reasons i am sure you understand. but when i hear it, it sounds foriegn to me.

master will use these names in private and in public, "edana, slave girl, kajira, pretty girl" oh and slut. heh, but then only when i am being slutty and rubing myself all over him at the gym! *grins*

I've seen submissives given new names when they were collared to a Dominant. This name generally replaced a previous 'scene' name. When the relationship ended the new name was dropped and the submissive reverted to their previous name or to a new scene name.

There are pluses and minuses to all of the above. The ability to revert to her old name gave her a way of clearly signalling to both the online and r/t communities that she was no longer in the relationship. The ease with which such names are dropped can aid in the reduction of stress in leaving the relationship. I think it also shows how little value there is in the names since they are as easy to add and remove as a hat.

My take? I have only ever once renamed a partner. Change a name or don't change a name as suits you both. It can have a very nice feel to be referred to by a name which S/He chose specifically for you, I'm sure.
