For me it is all about "balance". There is a time and a place for humor and seriousness. Many people simply do not know when either is appropriate and thus irritate others. Some are simply stuck in one mode (serious or humorous) the majority of the time. If the person that told you that is in a "serious" mindset the majority of the time then I am sure you do irritate him or her "if" you are in a humorous mindset most of the time. They think you do not take things seriously and you think they are serious enough for everyone lol It is simply personality differences. Shit happiness lol

Good Luck!

i have what i would say is a twisted sense of humor and quick wit.  during online chat as well as in person i often find the lighter side of conversations and try to keep humor about things.   at times, usually online, i've been told that 'this is a serious lifestyle' and that my humor has no place in it.

(here comes the disclaimer) i dont use humor with the aim to hurt anyone, discount their feelings or make light of their own beliefs.   simply to enjoy life as it comes.

you?

I can find the humor in almost anything.  I enjoy D/s and all of wiitwd but in the end, it too is rife with some of life's occasional absurdities.

sillygirl09 -> RE: keeping your humor (4/25/2007 6:05:49 PM)

I am a lot like you sunfleur I tend to find the humorous side of things whenever I can.  I also suffer from the giggles often at times that might be thought of as inappropriate.  One of my fondest memories of a past Master was one night when he tied me sitting in a chair in a hotel room and started to flog me... what he didn't account for were the very well oiled wheels on the chair.  The flogger would hit I'd jump a bit and the chair would move suddenly I started laughing and giggling and could not stop, the look on his face was priceless.  I am giggling right now thinking about it [:D]

To quote a famous and funny lady:
Laughter is the best medicine...next to penicillin.

And I'm out of penicillin.

I can't believe nobody has said it yet, so I will;  Fuck-em if they can't take a joke

"Mostly online."  Now there is a great big surprise.

But hey, I come from a family where no funeral is complete without a wisecrack about the deceased.

TemptingNviceSub -> RE: keeping your humor (4/25/2007 8:03:43 PM)

As another said it is the balance of things..I am a big proponent of balance..and laughter is a definite must..and shared laughter is a very pleasant bonding experience..Tempting

Yeah, I've met "serious" types. To heck with them. There is nothing quite so hilarious as making a submissive honk a bicycle horn with their butt cheeks while you paddle them with a big red clown shoe!

So i guess what you're saying here is that you do actually own an extra pair of shoes for play, right?

Hard limits do not have to be lifestyle in nature. Life is too short to not laugh. A sense of humor is a hard limit for me. Honesty is another.

How can someone not see the humor in some of the things we get ourselves into?

on our very first meeting in person.....Daddy spent time making me giggle telling me outrageous jokes and quoting from the Muppet Show.

there is a time for seriousness....and a time to giggle and enjoy what life has to offer.  sometimes those two times come between moments of one another.  :)

BlackWolfSwitch -> RE: keeping your humor (4/26/2007 6:11:06 AM)

Agreed. Without humor, we'd all be in early graves. Anyone that tells you different, isn't going to live long enough to enjoy the lifestyle, let alone even the simplest forms of humor that they could grasp. Life, Love, and Laughter... and Leather. ~winks~

Cheers.

opensoul -> RE: keeping your humor (4/26/2007 7:58:16 AM)

Laughter, humor, and just smiling and having fun are soo special in life! If we all had hard faces and no evil smiles on our faces could we say we were having any fun. I love to laugh and joke and say things some of my friends would never think I would say. It keeps them wondering what I am thinking and doing.

After a very stressful week my Master sent me a card with these words STRESSED spelled backwards is DESSERTS, so lets all forget stress and get our desserts any way we can[:)]

JSin -> RE: keeping your humor (4/26/2007 8:08:26 AM)

I completely agree. Laughter is absolutely great and I doubt I could have a sub who did not have a great sense of humor. For me at least there is nothing more amusing than bieng in the middle of a scene and having some faux paux turn into a laughing fit..

Just a couple days ago I was playing with one of my grrls and she asked if I had ever had a Frosty Blowjob... I had not so she got her mouth all chilled out and was having quite the time at her work,.. She paused and asked me what I think...

I told her "It felt like sticking my dick into a very enthusiatic snowdrift"... we ended up in a pile laughing our ass off... Took a bit of time to get back on track but was so worth it..

In my view sex should be fun and we should be able to laugh about the funny shit even if it interupts play.

Fuck them if they can't take a joke. Does that mean that if they can take a joke your going to have to do without sex??

mydestiny2043 -> RE: keeping your humor (4/26/2007 8:50:30 AM)

I'm the same but also use humor when I'm out of my comfort zone talking and when really nervous.Just my 2 cents

I agree with curiouslyseeking.  I think there is a time and place for everything. Master and i laugh and joke all the time. He even allows me to be a smart-ass sometimes. I am just very careful about when, where and how. When He is being serious or has a quirt in his hands it is NOT the time to be a smart-ass. [:D]

This is pretty much how it is with my Master also.  But I try to remember that being a smart-ass at the wrong time could lead to an ass that smarts.... oh wait.... that can be a good thing.  [:D]

i agree with this. some of us tend to be stuck in one mode most of the time (tho not all of the time...i've yet to meet someone who completely lacked a sense of humor or a serious side). i'm one of those who is serious most of the time, and for this reason i don't get along well with those who are silly/light-hearted most of the time. but i do have a sense of humor, and enjoy laughing and joking around, but that's just not where my head is most of the time.

Great story! You may want to try having her chew a mouth full of Altoids and then try it... another frosty sensation. ;)

I hate laughing.

It pisses me off.
