Instead of telling her future husband she is having second thoughts, Jennifer Wilbanks just ran away and when she finally did call home, she said she was abducted. I simply don't get that mindset. I can't wrap my mind around it. Can someone help me?

She probably thought it would "save face" for her and her family by being kidnapped rather than just cancel the wedding. I can't imagaine a non-celebrity wedding with 600 guests, 12 bridesmaids, etc. They must have well over 100k invested in it.

Easily that much. It just boggles my mind what she did. Didn't she read a newspaper or watch TV and realize what was going on?

Perhaps there is no logical or rational reason. She got be looney, unbalanced etc. Although you would think the groom would have picked up on that. Obviously she is not "normal" to put her family through all that, not to mention what has to be thousands, or tens or hundreds of thousands spent by authorities searching for her.

Maybe she got cold feet, ran away, then realized that was a dumb thing to do, so she did an even dumber thing and staged a kidnapping. Maybe she wanted lots of attention.

I hope they prosecute her for something.

Authorities said they are looking into the possibility of suing Wilbanks for the estimated $40,000 to $60,000 cost of searching for her. That option would have to be approved by the city council. The groom's father, Claude Mason, is a former mayor of Duluth and a local judge.

"We feel a tad betrayed and some are very hurt about it," Mayor Shirley Lasseter said.

I would also think there might be some criminal charges they could file. Not sure what they would be.....I heard today that she had bought a bus ticket a week before.

They can charge her with filing a false police report... but I think the maximum fine is $1000.

In most states, it is known as filing a or making a false report of a crime
