"Sunnis, Shiites split on U.S. troop bill"

" BAGHDAD - Many Sunnis on Friday welcomed a U.S. congressional push to begin withdrawing U.S. troops by Oct. 1, but one Shiite grocery store owner expressed fear the move would "leave Iraq in the hands of al-Qaida."

Iraqis appeared divided along sectarian lines over Thursday's Senate approval of House-passed legislation calling for U.S. troops to begin leaving Iraq by Oct. 1. President Bush pledged to veto the measure and neither body passed the measure with enough votes to override him. "

So who wins when everyone's dead?  An eye for an eye makes for a lonely world.

Paradoxically  that Sunni Shia hatred has cost the careers/reputations of Bush/Blair.
Funny or what ?

The Sunnis should be the ones who fear the loss of American peace-keepers. They're the minority and if Leftists here get what they want, there will be a huge blood-bath there in Iraq just like when we abandoned the people of Vietnam, and I'll bet that the Sunnis will be the biggest losers in that blood-bath

Since the conflict in iraq to me is basically a civil war, i would think the sect which has fewer people and power would fear the US leaving.

Just add in the hatred Shiites and Kurds have pent up for the Sunnis there because of Saddams's atrocities and you'll have the formula for what Libs are trying to brew in Iraq. It's a political year, so nothing but Democrats' own blind ambition matter to them

Hell i am about  ready to say divide the country into the different sects, but noone would agree to that based on the oil resources.

Ignorance may be its own reward, it certainly is bliss.  We are now apprised of the fact that Democratic blind ambition is the cause of our woes, and having followed the conservative sect of the Republicans we would have been lead by the nose thru this imbriglio  of our own making.   By example, the fact that the Kurdish people have been fighting (albiet peaceably ) for a homeland for  thousands of years is immaterial, the Turks the Iraquis, the Iranians, they all come out when we are bathing and piss downstream-------

Well, had I known there was a plan, I would have backed this war in the first place, the scales have lifted from my eyes.  This is rmeiniscent of the promise to Hmong people---

Nah, it ain't worth going into detail, again and again, but this is a little larger than the  Republican clarity of purpose.

Yes, how large is the Republican clarity of purpose, Ron

Do elaborate

Rather lacking altogether----and I am not much mistaken, Sanity.  The Grand Old Party is floundering here, not looking past the current situation.

Care to source the comment that there was a huge bloodbath in Vietnam when the US left?
