For a while I was involved with a guy who was really into baseball.  I played little league for a year when I was a kid, but never really developed an interest.  We still talked about it tons though.  He coached, and I really got into listening to him go on about it, and ask questions and stuff.  It gave me a lot of insight into his thought processes and I loved watching his face when he talked because he was really expressive.

I guess I'm wondering why you're not talking about it when you're watching it with him.  You, know, like ask questions and stuff and learn that way.

a couple of things - Chicago has baseball rivalry which literally divides the city ...on the northside are the die hard Cubs fans who will never (and i mean never) see a World Series again at Wrigley Field because of the goat curse (almost a 100yrs now) ...on the southside (near where i live) is home of the 2005 champs White Sox at the Cell (or Cellular Field or new Comisky Park) ...one time called the working man's team.

Daddy and i are football fans - His team is Redskins and i root for Da Bears. plus He's also an avid tennis player twice a week and sometimes on weekends to practice his serve.  i have already challenged Him to a game the next time He visits.

Cherry,
sambamanslilgirl is right about the rivalries especially within a city.  Once you learn the basics we will boggle your mind with it lol.

So this is why i'm trying to learn some basics so that i can semi grasp it.

psst Cherry - surprise your Master - tell Him you heard that if the Yankees are swept against Boston (lose every game against them) that the coach Joe Torre will be gone.  Hope that impresses Him lol.

The Yankees better start earning their outrageously high salaries, that's for sure! They're my boys, but they're getting spoiled and complacent, yo.

Aww, it takes a ton of heart to be a Cubs fan, though. =)
And keep the faith. If the <choke> Curse of the Bambino can be broken, so can the goat curse. ;)

Cherry,

Have you considered the library? Check the children's section to see if they have instructional books on baseball or check with the local little league - see if there are books it can recommend.  It is definitely NOT my intention to offend you (and I hope you won't be) with these suggestions - just that books for children tend to outline the subject simply and to be fairly plain in describing rules and actions. Once you have the basic concepts down, learning the game should be easier, and watching alot more fun!  Good Luck! [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m9.gif[/image]

this slave knew next to nothing about baseball when she met Master.  it has been a tremendous amount of fun to learn about the game, and His team. He has quite a passion for both!

there are people who enjoy watching a game of baseball...and then there are fans of the game.

there are people who have a favorite team or player...and then there are fans who can quote their favorite team's and/or player's statistics for whatever year in question you'd care to discuss with them.

there are those who'd really like to see their team win...and then there are those who aren't exactly satisfied if their team wins, unless the Red Sox lose on the same day when they AREN'T playing against each other.(that one took a while to grasp, but it has to do with the statistics of wins/losses which ends up determining who is in the League playoffs, which then determines who goes to the World Series.)

this slave would encourage you to learn all you can about the Mets, their current roster as well as their history.  practice the logo so you can accurately paint it on your face next time you go to see them play---and root, root, root for your team!!!!

p.s.  GO YANKEES!!![:)]

charismagirrl -> RE: Baseball for dummies and other things to please... (5/1/2007 12:27:50 PM)

First to gypsyfirefly...i was totally NOT offended...i actually tried looking in that kind of way at the bookstore...most of what i found was regarding coaching little league and such....

Mercnbeth....LOL...my Daddy is one of those that loves to watch his team, other teams too and has that whole thing going about which other teams won of lost in regards to the World Series (also the same with the Giants lol during football season)...he's totally into the whole thing.

As far as me painting my face...i am almost laughing hysterically at the thought...not quite sure if my Daddy would appreciate that one so much, but it is such a funny thought! i do have my Mets bb cap from the first and only game i've ever gone to and i do have a few t-shirts of his that i could wear to a game or on game day.

i've gotten a ton of great advice here...minnetar gave me ALOT with the basics and then all of the links from Level (wow, i'm going to print all the stuff out and then study like an exam for school)...Everyone else with their input...Just thanks bunches.

Cherry,
there are a ton of rules so don't be afraid to ask questions when you don't understand.  You are such a sweetheart and i love to help as so many others have done.
