Alright, ladies and gentlemen,

The moment has arrived.  I need a car.  To ease my conscience, I want to buy a hybrid.

What experiences have people had?

Yours,

benji

Yay!!!  Benji's back!

I drive a Tahoe.  Nope not a hybrid.
I love my Tahoe.  Been driving it for nine years.
I'll be very sad when big red car dies on me.

Hi:

I know a close friend of mine who has a Toyota Prius and she loves it.  When I first got into her car and being the BBW that I am, I first thought I would have difficulty but there is more room than I had imagined to be and she showed me some of the little extras in her car.

She plans to buy a new one this year.

Oh yeah, Benji's back!

Before you go and spend all of your money on a hybrid you might want to consider investing in a hitman to remove the person that is also using your avatar.

Personally, I'd get a Honda because I believe they are the best designed and best built cars on the planet. I doubt if I'll ever buy anythng but a Honda, Acura, Lexus, Toyota, or Infiniti ever again. Unless I win the lottery and get some screamingly outrageous exotic. The Prius and the Civic are both awesome cars.

Do the Earth a favor and skip the trucks and SUVs.

Bob

I've had my Prius for just over a year now and am deliriously happy with it. If it knew how to swing a thin cane and stare me down to my knees when I needed that sort of thing, I wouldn't need anyone else in my life. Does that help answer your question? :)

Roughly 47 mpg average for the first year, and a delightfully smooth ride. Oh, and the $3,100 tax credit I just put on my federal return was kind of nice too (that amount is decreased somewhat now, so you'll want to check on that first).

I'm all for Hybrid cars, however, I read somewhere that the Prius recently was unable to pass emission's testing.  The way the car is designed to save on fuel prevents it from being able to idle properly for the testing...go figure.  I am sure they will work that kink out in newer models; but I'd certainly inquire about it before making such a purchase.

Welcome back, Benji!  Good to have your sharp wit online again.

I bought a Pontiac Vibe (same as the Toyota Matrix).  Good gas milage (30-35 hwy for me, YMMV)

Of course, if you want to really ease your conscience, you could always buy a Tesla.
100% electric
0 to 60 in about 4 seconds
135 mpg equivalent
about 200 miles per charge

(This car just SCREAMS "Benji!")

My brother and his wife purchased a Toyota Prius. They are very happy with their new car and the tax credit that came with it.  Plus, their greyhound, Cosmo, fits quite comfortably in the back seat - so more room than it looks.

Good luck with your search Benji!

Only 47 MPG? That's kind of disappointing.
Don't forget to research battery lifespan, construction and disposal issues surrounding hybrids... there's no free ride in this ecosystem. Personally, i like an older, medium-displacement motorcycle for mileage
