puzzle -> Emotional versus Physical (4/28/2007 7:58:52 AM)

Here is a question I've had in my mind for a while that I've never been able to resolve:

In all of your opinions, is the term "Switch" specifically a "Play" term or can it also encompass an emotional state or desire?

If I switch sub to dom it is emotional for me.
If I switch bottom ot top it is physical for me.

For me personally it is not a play term.  I have a guy I surrender to and that is intrinsic to how we relate.  I'm looking for a guy who will similarly surrender to me.  In that way is very emotional.  Actually I'm not finding topping as a recreational, non emotional activity, to be very emotionally satisfying.  And emotional satisfaction is high on my list these days.

When I switch now, it is when I bottom, which I consider play...

In a time not so far ago, I was collared to a wonderful man and he was collar to me as well.  That was a dynamic in which it was highly emotional and enthralling to be a part.

I would happily engage in either if the situation was right for my family and me.

I dont know its actually meaning. I suspect it came about due to someone not fitting nicely into a BDSM box.
To me the impulse to switch is emotionally initiated.

It could also be used as a play term(though ive never heard it) especially by someone like me who doesnt have a lot of control over her switching or doesnt want to quite possibly and switchs mid play-dont tell anyone. An emotionally charged playterm.

I think it depends on the person.  Some people who call themselves switches are really submissive.  (Hell, some people who call themselves dominant are really submissive.)  But instead of explaining all the complications to people who aren't likely to understand anyway, they just say they're switches.

And then other people are really switches.  Even that varies.  Sometimes people are always dominant with someone and always submissive with someone else.  Sometimes people are switch with everyone.  There are many different species of fish in the ocean, you know.

For me the term tends to be misleading, but the best of what's there to work with.

There are very few people that see both of my kink sides (though the few where that has been the dynamic have been excellent experiences) but more that depending on who I'm with, I am one or the other.

I don't say I'm a switch because I flip during play, but because both sides are within me.

For me it is different. I am emotional in both roles. The emotions I feel when I Top are completely different from the emotions I feel when I bottom.
