Newbies - are you scared about jumping in? Is it hard to find your bearings? Have you always received good advice or have you felt written off?

Nope - not scared. Love to jump in with both feet ~grin~
Although, I guess nervous is a good emotion.. never know how you're going to be "accepted".
I don't *always* get good advice, but love debates about particular subjects.

Everyone - how newbie friendly do you think collarme is? And how important is it to be newbie friendly?

I think it's very important to be "newbie friendly".
everyone needs a chance, even the "old" ones ~heh~ (not said to be offensive)

A "top ten signs of a good Dom" would actually be a brilliant move for us newbies. We're scared of meeting up with some of the real baddies out there that tell us they're tops/Doms/Masters and really getting hurt. I've lurked for a little while here and have just started poking my head out every now and then as I've met with nothing but politeness when I've approached or been approached privately.

Well the good news is that the "top ten signs of a good dom" list are identical to the "top ten signs of a responsible mature adult" list.  So if you've got one, you got them both.

When it comes to being friendly and welcoming to newbies, I think Collarme is about average.

I first became a member just to meet some locals in my community, then hopped on the message boards to waste some time, lol. As the weather warms up and I get busier, I'll be spending less and less time in the forums.

Message boards and online communication  has always ended up being unsatisfying to me in the long run. Not because of all the flamers, the nasties or the "fakes", just because it's so one-dimensional. There are actually a lot of cool-seeming folks who post that I would love to meet, but the reality is that I don't have the time or money to invest. As a way of getting to know somebody, message boards only go so far.

If I make one friend through posting here, then I'm happy.

That being said.. CM forums are pretty much like any other message board I've been to. It's a bit racier and explicit at times, but you have the cliques, the handful of "Jokers", the longtime wise posting mavens, the endless "debates" over bizarre things, the dictionary quoters. It's a little funny when I see phrases like " toughen up", like the forums are just one Big Bad Mean Street or something, lol.

As a "newbie" to Collarme I have to admit I am a "lurker" on the main boards.  Part of that is being a novice to D/s. Plus by the time I have read the thread, whatever information and/or advice I may found relative and wished to contribute, usually, has already been offered, given and repeated. [sm=smile.gif]

Part of it as well, I am just enjoying having my eyes opened wide to all the vast experiences that most all have to contribute.  While some of the threads may be "repeats" to long time members, for me, they can be new, exciting, surprising, and the best part, informative.

So thank you from my spot in the Lurker's Corner. [image]http://www.collarchat.com/micons/m16.gif[/image]
