I'm finally getting around to reading Anthony Bourdain's "The Nasty Bits" - if you've ever spent a stretch working in the restaurant industry you'll recognize and appreciate the really twisted sense of humor

Two of many of my books on Edgar Cayce are on my reading stand right now. Which one I pick up depends on the day.

I have several magazines I read as soon as they come out, Newsweek, Time, NY Times, Smithsonian, Oxford American, Reader's Digest and an art magazine that I forget the name right now, in addition to several that pertain to horse training.

Status: offline 		Just got done reading The Ethical Slut myself. And I have a copy of Catherine Called Birdie, love it - my inspiration, heh, I nabbed it when the high school library got rid of it. Also in the middle of The Psychology of Everyday Things by Donald Norman and a collection of Anais Nin's essays.

my all time favorite book is pride and prejudice which i think i have memorized by heart..

i can also read and reread harry potter and the chronicles of narnia

i'm currently reading all the fairytales and folktales i can find from all cultures (my favorite ones are the tribal ones from asia, americas and africa)

just got a copy of "africa in my blood" by jane goodall today...i am looking forward to diving into that one, as well as "eat, pray, love" (can't remember who the author is on that one).

i saw you mentioned pride and prejudice - i finally bought the book! i'm such a bad english major not to have read it yet ;) have you seen "mr. darcy's diary"? it's supposed to be a look into mr. darcy's thoughts throughout the novel. it's by amanda grange. i have it, but i haven't read it yet - wanted to get through p&p first.

it's not nearly as good as pride and prejudice (of course) but i think she did a reasonable job..

she does quote frequently from p and p which really threw me off because her writing style from so different from jane austen's..she should have stuck to one or the other..

and it gets very redundant because hers doesnt add too much additional insight into what mr. darcy may have felt, experienced, etc...

but im a big p and p buff..so i enjoyed it nonetheless

Status: offline 		I am reading  If Angels Burn by Lynn Viehl, very well written  vampire novel,  unfortunatly too many vampire themed novels seem to have the same plot. Just change the characters name and away you go.  I  enjoy Laurell K. Hamilton but wish she went back to more plot that porn, not that vampire/werewolf porn is bad :)  but  her first novels in the Anita Blake series used to be woven with an amazing tapestry of plot and  intrigue.

Diana Gaboldon's a Breath of Snow and Ashes, this is the second time I've read  it,  her characters are amazing.

Hey denika, I just finished Night Lost which is book 4 in Lynn Viehl's series. Have you found any of the others after If Angel's Burn which is the first? They're all good I think. I've enjoyed reading each one.

I also love LKH and yeah, the paranormal porn is great but she needs more plot like the earlier ones.

The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russell (overwritten prose, but good) ...

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (pretty damned good) ...

StarCraft: Ghost by Keith DeCandido (wouldn't call it "Literary," certainly, but it was a fun read) ...

StarCraft: Speed of Darkness by Tracy Hickman (absolutely awesome story ... very emotional for SF).

Status: offline 		   I am a huge fan of satyrical works myself, so I'm about 25 books in to Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. I'm also reading a rather well written piece of fantasy with more than a dash of IE thrown in called To Serve and Submit by Susan Wright. She's also the current spokesperson for the National Coalition for Sexual Freedom. A very nice writing style, I must say.
 
  I'm also reading quite a few works on psychology, as an aside project. My favorite right now is called The Emotional Brain: The Mysterious Underpinnings of Emotional Life by Joseph LeDoux.

I'm reading Flags of Our Fathers, The Art of War and another book, I think is called Legacy...it's the one that follows Eragon.
 
I'm completely into the fantasy books...and love George R.R. Martin, Robert Jordan, and Terry Goodkind. I just read to fast for them to catch up, so I wait for a few books to come out before I reread the first ones again. Especially Martin's and Jordan's...there's so much political stuff that goes on...I'd be lost if I picked up book 4 a year after reading book 3.
 
Jodi Picoult has become one of my favorite authors, of late. My Sister's Keeper cut a little close to the bone, and the ending was a bit trite, but her words just flow. I've read quite a few of hers and The Pact was probably my favorite.
 
And, I love Janet Evanovich...I've followed her since she was writing for the Loveswept series. My other guilty pleasure is J.D. Robb AKA Nora Roberts, the "In Death" series. Very cool characters and the books are great to relax with.

Status: offline 		My most recent books are a motley lot.   The same lady who wrote Catherine, Called Birdie, also wrote a book called The Midwife's Apprentice.   I preferred the Wild Card books to the new GRRM series, and while I don't mind porn, I feel like LKH books after Obsidian Butterfly were -bad- porn, and not the amusing sort.  No plot + bad porn + Mary Sue + Idealized husband who is pretty much nothing other than a walking huge erection =  No reader here.   I mean c'mon.  Does Micah do anything other than agree with Anita and wangst about his enormous schlong?    But I digress.

Not really, but that's apparently Anita's type... i mean, was Richard any different? Oh yeah, he NEVER agreed with Anita, my mistake.

alandra lent me  the next one in the series and I can't wait to start it, I really  emjoy Lynn Viehl's writing style, her medical scenes are incredibly accurate.  Have you read her fantasy series?

I was a bit resentful when  Micah came intot he picture, Anita already seemed to have so many  men that played an integral part in her life, adding one more almosed seemed a bit over the top.

Nathaniel is one of my favorite characters as well, right up there with Jason. She has woven ssuch unique back grounds for her characters, I  hope her next books start delving a bit more into the plot aspect again,  and maybe another appearance by Edward :)
