As a Mistress, I've read several books.... Those are focused on a dominant side.

How about books for subs/slaves?
I only know "the Bottoming book"....

Any other good books for subs/slaves?

Story of O.

There, i said it again, i couldn't help it, it's my favorite novel of all time, and now i will assume the position and meekly await my whipping at the hands of everyone who hates/is bored by/just doesn't get Story of O. (Psst, the joke's on them, LOL, i love a good whipping...)

More of my favorites:

Return to the Chateau (Story of O, Part Two)
The Image
Beatrice
Fanny Hill
Les Liaisons Dangereuses
Nine and a Half Weeks
Carrie's Story
Safe Word
Wuthering Heights
(no, i'm not kidding...)

I also enjoyed The Story of O. However, I also enjoyed The Marketplace series and the Beauty series, which I have also seen ridiculed, lol. I was both entertained and educated by all of those.

My list would also include:

Memoirs of a Geisha
slavecraft
The Erotic Art of Female Submission
The New Bottoming Book

I have purchased but not yet used the Workbook to go with Ms. Abernathy's Complete and Concise Slave Training Manual (hopefully got that name right).

I also have books regarding specific services that I'm interested in improving my skills, (massage, tea service, etc.) but these would be vanilla books, not lifestyle.

If you go to Amazon and search for submissive or slave, there actually are a lot of books out there to choose from. I have more on my wish list that I may buy in the future.

Be well,

harmony

One of the ones that hasn't been mentioned yet is The Compleat Slave by Jack Rinella. While Jack writes from the prospective of a gay male leather top/dom/master, a good amount of the book is useful for people of any orientation, role or either gender. He also travels to many leather/BDSM conventions and seems to be a genuinely decent guy.

I can think of a few others off the top of my head that are decent reads intended for a general BDSM audience, such as Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns by Philip Miller and Molly Devon. A new book that came out recently is Erotic Surrender: The Sensual Joys of Female Submission by Claudia Varrin. I haven’t read this one yet and I’ve heard mixed things about it. From what I have heard, this book would be more valuable for a new or novice submissive.

One thing I would also suggest is for submissives to read books geared towards tops and dominants to better understand safety issues in BDSM play and to better understand dominants.

Happy reading,

Joe

I think as long as the person is READING, they are good. One of the most impressive things the Owner has is literally walls of bookshelves filled in EVERY room of his house. He's ALWAYS reading.

Whether it's non-fiction, biography, how-to, novels, science fiction or whatever, as long as the person is reading, they will be expanding their ideas, their connections and their exposure in the world.

The Four Agreements............author: Don Miguel Ruiz
The Kama Sutra.................author: Vatsyayana
1984(the ultimate manual of mental submission, bar none).....author: George Orwell

this slave agrees with Emerald that reading in and of itself is helpful, but not if it is just the TV Guide and the National Enquirer. for example, if your sub/slave is a service oriented one, perhaps a book on a formal tea service.

Yes and no. My favorite magazine is Entertainment Weekly. It's fun, I love pop-culture, it's witty, and is an interesting look at who we are.

If people are reading, then read. While I don't think the Owner would be impressed if I ONLY read fluff and cheese, it, too, has its own merits.

Can't remember the name of it (I think its entitled "Diary of an Old Guard Slave" or something like that) ...and its in my closet somewhere, but Vi Johnson's book. Definately reality based, and if people would just read it, it might bring some heads out of the clouds <grin>

best regards,
fate

Memoirs of a Geisha is one of my all time favorite books

Different Loving by Gloria Brame is another good one which i read when i first "discovered" the lifestyle.

The Story of O which i personally didn't really enjoy nearly as much as i did the other two i have mentioned above.

Tarnsman of Gor, not sure if i spelled it right, but i read this one and again, didn't enjoy as the first two i mentioned but it's pretty good fiction read.

my Master had me read Eight Weeks to Optimum Health and another one He purchased for me was Diary of Anais Nin

Christina Abernathy wrote a second book called Training With Miss Abernathy

It is well worth the money, even if it is "only" 150 pages - the value of a book is not measured by the pound. (unless you are in the UK)

Thanks for the tip. I have the workbook and have only glanced through it, since it's really something to go through specific exercises with a Dom, either your own or someone as a trainer. A friend has the original book and offered to loan it to me, but I am glad to know if people felt it's not worth reading.

Be well,
harmony

Chris, is this the "workbook" you are referring to that she wrote? That's what I own and haven't read through much of it yet and would be interested in knowing if anyone found the exercises in the workbook of benefit.

Thanks,
harmony

Wow, I never would have thought about The Four Agreements. My Mom (vanilla) has it, and keeps talking about how good it is, haha maybe I should pick it up afterall. I agree, 1984 is one of my all-time favs. Today I just ordered "Screw the Roses Send Me the Thorns" off of Amazon, can't wait for it to arrive! Aside from that, Story of O was good. It's too late, I can't think of any more right now lol. G'nite

There is always "Venus in furs" to fall back on.

The book was written by Leopold Von Sacher-Masoch.

"You shall become my slave, and I, shall try to be your venus in furs".

Thanks everybody !
The Story of O - yes, it's a classic that was the first book I read a long long time ago....
Training With Miss Abernathy - Very basic, but useful.
I had learned and still am learning a lot from my mentor -the old scool Mistress (she is a quite famous one in the world) besides books I read. At least I improve myself in every opportunity I get.
Then it hit me what about my slaves?

Especially for a newbie, the slave wanna be.
I usually take "experienced ones" who at least read several books on their own and had served some Mistresses.
It usually takes less time to train to suite my taste.
Just this slave wanna be is so new to the scene, but is eager to learn.
I thought I give him some books (written from a slave's point of view).
Also, I created my own traing manual for a newbie...Now I feel like a professor at college....... :)

Anyway, any more good books for a slave to read, let me know...

Books that I have read that helped me to understand the lifestyle a little better would have to be:

SM 101

Story of O by Pauline Reage

Different Loving by Gloria Brame

Secret Submission (Fiction)

Total Power Exchange (Fiction)

and

The Joys of Sensual Female Submission by Claudia Varrin
