For me, if someone has a name like SirSomething or MasterSomething, or GoddessSomething, etc. I will usually refer to them that way or a shortened version of it such as dropping the Master part. However, to me it's simply a name, usually for scene purposes or chat purposes. I don't give it a lot of thought. I don't think because I say, Hey Master so and so how are you today that he will get delusions that he is MY master. If he does, that's really his issue, not mine. I don't think a name or even title makes me think any more or less of the person. Their actions, however, do.

I don't consider anyone to be a master who has not been in an authenticated master and slave relationship. Kane

I think you're asking if people have the right to give themselves a title without any outside authority granting them that title. In the absence of any Master licensing board, yes they have that right. Does anyone have to call them by it, no. You can call yourself Emperor of the Universe if you like, doesn't mean I feel that I have to address you as Great Majesty and High Pooh-bah. If you're asking something else, I apologise but your post is very unclear.

I must have missed the other post also. I guess it didn't jump out and grab my attention........I just caught this one scrolling at the top. Coming from a part of the world where titles are generally something to be made fun of in the manner of "oh yeahhhhhhh, you don't say?!?!?" with a skeptical look that says "what freaky planet are you from?", and an overall intollerance for over inflated egos......I generally don't take the whole Master thing very seriously. Or I reply with an "yeah, and I am BitchQueenGoddessoftheUniverse! Nice to meet you!" We tend to be a "prove yourself" kinda bunch around here. Other than that, my own personal perspective is that whatever title's we have are best bestowed upon us by those that have experienced whatever skill or trait we have that causes them to believe we really ARE that title. Then I feel it is wiser kept on that same level rather than running around bellowing it to the world at large and demanding complete strangers treat it with respect.

I have read all the previous posts on this subject and I can see both sides of the coin, so to speak. In certain trades, you could not claim the position of Master of that trade until you had gone through a lenghty process of training and experience. In long ago times, well before ours, maybe they had something similar for our choice of lifestyle, I do not know. My personal belief is, that I would not call myself a Master until I was in a relationship that had a collared slave. I have had such a situation and was referred to as Daddy and Master within that relationship. When compared to many on here and those I have met and known within the lifestyle. My experience is vastly short and limited to them, but does that make me any less of a Master to my slave as they are within their relationship. I think not. I base my reasoning on this belief. Each of us has certain tastes, desires and goals we want to enjoy, do and achieve. My tastes and desires are far different than others on this site. There are some areas that I will not cross and other areas that I will enjoy that others may never cross or reach. It won't make me or them any less of a Master to those they are in control of. Everyone has the right to call themselves whatever they want, but I do believe that there should be some valid basis for what they base that upon. But that is my own humble opinion. Calbammer
