What's TOG?

I think I got it "The Old Guard".

And yes EmeraldSlave2, it is a pity that there is some disparity between gay and het "factions" of the lifestyle... but there are.

How do you do that? I looked forever and couldn't find it.

It didn't come up when i searched by topics and subjects, probably because of the quotation marks. But when i searched by bodies and replies it came up.[:)]

OK, I've actually met one man who was given the title Grand Master.

It was a joke from a group of Masters who had earned their Master's Cover, Old Guard style. The man died last year in his late 80's I believe. He was Grand Master Pucket.
The group was getting a little aged itself and since Master Pucket had been a Master long before any of them and had been many of their mentors when they were young Tops, they got together and presented him with the title Grand Master Pucket, mostly as a joke about how old he was. It was recieved in the manner it was given, Grand Master Pucket would get all flustered and tell you to just call him Mr Pucket, He is already sorely missed here, I wish I had gotten to know him better, from all the stories I've heard and read about the man he was a real gem.

Perhaps you could enlighten us as to your percieved disparity between communities. Do you not think the disparity exists for the same reason we have republicans and democrats. All people are different and what they think of you shouldn't matter.

svenericsn67 -> RE: TOG Grand Masters and houses (5/5/2005 7:35:06 AM)

Hey what do you mean "lost the plot"? I didn't know there was a plot. Is that even legal?

Hmm disparities between sub-cultures...that's a huge topic and I can tell you straight out I certainly don't have all the answers for this particular one.

Part of it is a difference in outlook- heterosexual couples are perceived and face very different challenges than homosexual couples do. This automatically creates a different focus and drive and adversity is what tends to bind people together. Part of it is a difference in cultural growth- the male homosexual community grew at a very different pace and culture than the general heterosexual scene is growing.

And part of it is the overall cultures themselves. Homosexual culture is far more flexible with playing, with cruising, with casuality in general. Hetereosexuals tend to be far more relationship focused, seduction and having some "specialness" attached to it.

Those are some main ideas, they are not universal at any length and there are some places where the het and homo scene are more enmeshed than in others. But these are some main reasons I think it exists.

I don't understand this really. I care what other people think, why else would I be on a discussion list? I care how they feel, I care how I am perceived, I care how my actions thoughts and words will affect and effect people in the world.

Now, how much that "caring" translates into "changing myself" depends greatly on any of the particular circumstances.

But how others thinks and feel towards me greatly matters.

svenericsn67, I was simply agreeing with EmeraldSlave2's remark about disparity between the gay and het BDSM communities, and I see she has responded. Thank you EmeraldSlave2... I'm pretty sure you've been around quite a bit longer than I have, so I defer to you here.

THIS is the kind of discussion I love hearing....not just whiny/ranty "why aren't people doing what I want them to do?"

Thanks Fate :)

Cello- I've also just been lucky enough to have gay/lesbian friends and have a lot more contact with the homo community than some. My personality tends to be very akin to the gay male leather outlook (in general)

Homo community??? Yes, that statement alone convinces me that you are much more akin than any of the rest of us, by your sheer knowledge of the 'ins and outs' of queer-speak.

I wonder, given that you've opitimised yourself over and over again, if there is some kind of distinction we could bestow upon you, oh uber-bottom? Perhaps Divine and all Knowing Kinkster?

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: TOG Grand Masters and houses (5/6/2005 8:22:20 AM)

Lily does your post have any relevance to the discussion or are you just trying to take an obvious cyber jab at me? I would ask that if you want to take personal jabs that are unrelated to the discussion to do so privately so others don't have to endure the drama.

As far as what to call me, as long as I know it's me you're referring to, anything but "subbie" and "sis" tend to be ok. Most people online just use "Emerald."

That isn't an offensive phrase, Lily. At least not in my book and my community. You're just as likely to hear "homo" opposed to "hetero" as you are to hear "queer" "gay" or "GLBTI"

Maybe it depedns a lot on the queer community where you're at.

Well, depends on what def. of pansexual you're using. It is also a sexual orientation in its own right, not just a catch-all for other orientations.

EmeraldSlave2 -> RE: TOG Grand Masters and houses (5/6/2005 12:51:58 PM)

You've also go omnisexual, asexual, the selective slut and a host of other ways people describe and orient themselves.

lol..... good to see Wyntry still has a sense of humour!

Love the Chaucer style English.
