i'm wondering if such a thing already exists for arthritis or limited-mobility patients, but i've yet to find it...

What i'm looking for/trying to design is a simple, hand-held device that will give additional leverage on restraint straps. This way, if you have brand-new gear that hasn't been broken in, or massively over-built stuff, or are simply a huge bondage slut *cough*, your Top doesn't have to have the finger strength of a professional walnut-cracker to get everything sufficiently tight.

Anything?

Cheers,

...dave

Dom Depot maybe.  I seem to recall a device I used to use to tighten up nylon straps with.  Looks kind of like a come-along device but much smaller and made for 1" or 2" straps.  Unfortunately in order to use them you'd have to permanantly mount the straps to the tightening device. I think its caled  a cargo restraining strap

I don't know about leather straps

But most hardware stores have nylon roof rack, style straps with lever tensioning

And the low tech "Spanish windlass" /tournequet works great on long ropes
( Tie one rope loosely around something, stick a strong stick under the rope and start rotating it, so the rope gets twisted and tight. The longer the stick, the more torque which gets applied and the tighter the rope.)

Yeah, i don't want to mess with nylon ratchet straps, though... i'm thinking of basically an ergonomic device... something that can be held comfortably by the full hand. It would either engage one of the holes in the strap, or grip it with a clamp-type jaw... just moving the limiting factor from the finger to the arm muscles, not really trying to get mechanical advantage. Has to be simple and versatile.

No I havent, but the design sounds like a basic lever.

You need a hinged anchor point, and a hook for the last hole on the strap, mounted x of the way down the lever arm.
From memory, torque and distance are a proportion of the length

So if the hook is 9/10 of the way down from the hand doing the pulling, then the distance the hook moves is a tenth that of the hand, and the applied torque is multiplied by 10.

So drill a hole larger than the lever's diameter, in something immovable, down from the strap
Insert your lever (stick, pipe..)
Hook the strap.
Tie the hook however far down the lever your want.
(Too low and the hook will barely move any distance. Too high and the force you apply to the top of the lever, won't be magnified enough.)
Pull on the lever

Look at a wire strainer for fences, that crawls along the material being tensioned.

If you like using rope you can use a wooden or metal dowel to get it extremely tight. Tie up the sub normally, then take the dowel and hold it under the rope, use it to pull the rope up, then start twisting the rope, it will start to tighten the rope. When you have it as tight as you like you take another piece of twine or rope to tie it and keep it from unwinding.

I dunno what the overseas equivalent of a "$2 shop" is, but they are selling a plastic tool, that looks like an one piece upside down question mark, as an elderly aid (?)

The theory being, you hook something on the end of the curve, pull the long bit as a handle and the round bit rolls.

If you have a baby store like Babies R Us nearby, they have a little contraption for tightening the seatbelts on carseats.  It does not permanently mount.  In the normal application, you tighten the seatbelt as best you can and then loop the device around the the straps and pull a lever and it cinches the straps even tighter.  Then you leave it like that until you are ready to remove it.  Throw the lever again and it releases the tension.

Hope this helps.

This machine rules. It's called a Mighty-Tite. I've used it as a nanny and as a sadist Sir. It's a ratcheting device designed for nylon webbing but could possibly work with leather as well depending on the thickness. When it's a leather fetishist I have subbing to me, I put them in their chaps, and vest or chaps and a motorcycle jacket blindfold them and use the nylon webbing to make a makeshift sleepsack. They don't know any differently and I acheive the results I'm attempting to reach. The added clicking sounds of the ratchet through a hood or even without one often makes them crawl or tremble. Another thing that I've found that works well are seatbelt style immobilization backboard straps. Former EMT and Firefighter here. Just strap and pull... Perhaps one could have someone machine something similiar for leather latigo straps... Hear that SKEETER????

This could make for quite a cheap, but very effective bondage device. A roll of seatbelt webbing is around 13quid delivered from eBay, with a back board, perhaps made from something like a cheap sheet of plywood you have the makings of quite a restrictive and easily tightened bondage device.

The MightyTites would make it easy to tighten the webbing and yet leave a nice quick method of release, perhaps 2 for the hands and legs and 2 for the arms, one for the chest and head - total costs should be around a hundred pounds and a couple of hours of work...

I had something like that when I used to ride horses.  It was a gift so I have no idea where to find another or what it was called.  It was made of 2 pieces of wood that were hinged togeter in such a way that when they were bent there was enough space for a leather strap and when you pulled the hinge shut and viced down on the strap.
