This brings to mind a scene I saw a couple years ago at a club.   Two rather lovely women were playing - one the spankee, one the spanker.  The spanker, after every swat, said "Thank you Mistress!  Would you like another?"

Yes, it's possible to be a dominant woman and a masochist, and it's possible for such a woman to dominate while indulging her masochistic desires.

It's not gender-oriented, by the way--there are men who are both dominant and masochistic, too.

Dominant/submissive, master/slave, are power or authority orientations. Top/bottom, sadist/masochist, are sensation orientations. It's widely accepted that many dominants enjoy receiving sensation from massage or oral sex. Why is it so surprising that some dominants enjoy receiving more intense sensations?

I classify Myself as a Sadomasochist, and realized although I could always get pain from virtually any Dominant or Switch I wanted.. the Sadist in Me wasn't being fulfilled...

I don’t submit and am very much in control of my own pain and its levels but I often do something to a masochist and think ‘wow that looks really good, I want to try that’

I myself have described myself as a sado/masochist Dominant now for few years.
 
However I do let subs know that my pain is gained by one man and him only. 
 
Call yourself whatever YOU are comfortable with (or not!), and to hell with what others think.

Like bi-sexuality, I see all of us as being all things; to a more or lesser degree.  I'm learning (at last), not to worry too much about labels; they're too much like CrackerJack surprises.  You know...the ones where, if ya wiggle 'em at all the image shifts?
