Misery loves company, so here we go: I think today I had an offical nominee for the "worst day ever" award. It started of with the usuall. My two youngest at their best. Left alone for all of 10 minutes, they decided to bake a cake. So far, so good. However, what they did was to empty an big bottle (1L) of Maggi (a German liquid seasoning) on the living room floor, and then they proceeded to throw in every spice they could find. A monster mess on the floor and on the kids. And the smell still lingers. Then, my washer told me it was having technical difficulties, and trying to solve the problems flooded the first floor and made more mess. I still do not know if it works, though. And this evening, my cat comes in, limping. She seems to be unable to use one hindpaw, so a trip to the vet in the morning it will be. Sounds like a bad day, right? But however, that was only the garnish. Between the washer and the injured cat, the main event of the day took place. While I was arguing at the phone with my MIL (did I forget to mention that I had a major argument with my in-laws today?) something bangs against the backdoor. I turn around to chastise my oldest for not simply knocking, but what I see, is said child sacking agains the door, white as a sheet and screaming in pain. I open the door and he stagers in, leaving bloody footprints all over. A iron pole, which I told him to stay away from for about 20 times in the last week, had slipped his hands and smashed his big toe. He was bleeding profoundly and needed an ER visit asap. So I packed him and the younger ones and of to the hospital. 5 hours later, we are back home. The nail was completely busted, and the pieces were extracted during surgery under local anesthetics. The bone is broken and his food is in a cast for the next 3 weeks. At the moment he can not walk, and he will be in considerable amounts of pain during the weeken. After that, the pain will only be marginal, but for three weeks he will be in the house, having no recourse to loose some energie or get a bit out other than school (to where he can no longer walk, but needs to be driven). I honstly think that day qualifies for the award.
