As someone pointed out, I used the word 'character' when I should have used the word 'personality'. The ideas expressed by a person show their character (which has a moral dimension). The manner in which they spell or punctuate simply gives a clue about what the person is like.

I discovered another advantage to this when a forum that I was participating on was hacked and all data was lost. I copied and pasted my saved replies to the forum when the message board was back and running. There was one time where a moderator that I was having a political debate with deleted my reply instead of rebutting it. I re copied and pasted my reply to the thread. After he deleted the post again and locked the thread, I went to another message board, copy and pasted the argument from one of my desktop folders, and added my rebuttal. I went back to the original message board and created a new post that linked to the new message board. Though I generate my replies on a word document and arrange them for easy reading before copying and pasting the reply to the reply box, I don’t expect other posters to do the same.

And that was my original post. We can set expectations for ourselves based on our capabilities. But we should not set the standards for others, unless we are in a situation were standards need to be set (like in education or certification). This is a social environment and therefore should be treated as such. We have the capacity to ignore posts that aggravate us whether it's because of incorrect spelling, incorrect grammar and even disrespectful tone (which for me is more of a turn off then bad spelling or grammar). Let's make good use of that capacity, that choice and ignore those who are irritators to us. I've been quite successful at it as of late despite the taunts. I call it resistance training ;) - LA
