they should just make all donors have an hiv and other disease test before they can donate. beides, i honestly doubt there are hundreds of gay men clawing to get into sperm banks. really.

That's a really interesting story and one that the public should be aware of.... but I'm confused... what has it got to do with the poly lifestyle?

I agree, they should make all donor's be tested prior.
Perhaps they are afraid they will have all these homosexuals running around from the sperm they donate?
The way the country has been going in the recent months it appears it is going to get worse for gays before it gets better.
Sad but true.

It could be part of the Bush administration's hostility to gays. But isn't this new standard similar to the policy on blood donations which has been in effect since 1985?

Should that be changed as well?

From my experiences as a sperm donor, all donors at my sperm bank go through a physical exam and must provide a sperm, blood, and urethral swab before becoming regular donors. Once they start donating, they must repeat the blood and urethral swab tests every six months and six months after they provide their final sample.

That's what I thought, re: the blood donation policy in the USA. This is just an extension, no?

In Canada, as far as I know, we have similar issues regarding blood collection. See our current petition http://www.leteveryonedonate.ca/. I can't believe that in 2005 people still associate AIDS to gay people.

I think its rediculous to exclude someone from donating sperm based upon sexual orientation, I mean honestly why does it matter.....it doesnt. As long as you can pass a screening for HIV/AIDS I really think that sexual orientation is your own buisiness. So does that mean that lesbians cant donate eggs??(just kidding)
