Level -> "Mr." Hiasl? (5/5/2007 5:11:29 AM)

VIENNA, Austria - In some ways, Hiasl is like any other Viennese: He indulges a weakness for pastry, likes to paint and enjoys chilling out watching TV. But he doesn't care for coffee, and he isn't actually a person — at least not yet.

In a case that could set a global legal precedent for granting basic rights to apes, animal rights advocates are seeking to get the 26-year-old male chimpanzee legally declared a "person."

[:D] pahunk, I'm not sure you'd like the end result; it'd likely resemble a Jackson Pollack painting. (And I like Pollack, just not on my house).

Give him a casual card on the docks, we could use somebody willing to do some actual work for a change.

Whoa...Dude!  I am getting flashbacks from the remake of
"Planet of the Apes"!   [sm=whoa.gif]  That's some serious evolutionary
diversion going on there.  I mean like...what if you had to
invite your chimp neighbors over for Thanksgiving dinner?
They would be smashing the mashed potatoes and pulling
off the turkey legs and flinging the cranberries around and
stuff like that.

No way, Dude!  I just can't deal with that!  [8D]

BlindUnknown -> RE: "Mr." Hiasl? (5/5/2007 10:28:36 PM)

At first i thought this was crazy.  But then, i realized something:

If we can give human rights to non-humans...that means we can take them away from invalids!

Such as the drunken sorority girls who do nothing but drink and barely get D's in their physical education major.

i'd come up with a better example but at the moment, i can't think of one being on a college campus during cinco de mayo...why do people even celebrate that holiday? /sigh

I am having technical difficulties with You Tube, the video starts at first and then stalls.
But those apes sure are cute, too bad they can be really noisy!

You all do realize that Bonobos are more evolved than us?

My god, at least it wasn't Harry's Chocolate Shop on Purdue's campus the day school let out crossed with Cinco de Mayo.  It was two of my friends' birthdays, and my going to that bar shows what a good friend I am.  It's standing room only on a nightly basis anyway.  It was so crowded in there last night and it sucked so badly that I couldn't even get drunk properly.  It just put me in a bad mood and gave me a headache.  There were too many inebriated idiots blatantly trying to stare up my skirt, too many girls that laughed in the shrillest manner possible, and too many drunk friends to take care of.

And I definitely agree about taking away the sorostitutes' personhood.  If you twiddle your hair or say, "like" in a gesture that isn't intentionally ironic, you deserve to be shipped to a wildlife preserve under the aid of a tranquilizer dart.  Then again, with all the drugs those chicks are normally on, the dart might not be enough.

"Hiasl" means something like "dingbat" in Viennese slang--a mild term for a dumass.

Not the greatest name for a chimp if you're campaigning for animal rights.

Now I have a new term to use on many of the folks who come in our office [:D]

Are you suggesting we take away AnencephalyBoys rights?

How about Shotgun or the rest of the administration?

edited because my name was R challenged.

pahunkboy -> RE: "Mr." Hiasl? (5/7/2007 7:36:54 AM)

we wouldnt be the 1st socieity to take away rights from  blank,.

the whole group   home thing- stems from a supreme court deceion. each state is to have a plan to do away with mental retardation institation, this is a "agreement" "injuction" i cant find the word. well it all stemmed from Penn Hurst facilty outside of Philly. someone got in with a camera and documented the place.

this was around 1975.

so if the retarded just got rights in 1975; there is no quarantee that pendulumn could swing from say the elderly becomming too much of a burden on society- and hence have a duty to die.

it isnt occurring in 2007, but what abour 2017, 2027 ?

historically speaking this would not be somehting new.
[ie hitlers master race]

i never thought i would see such an arragant USA.  the general masses dont want this, but here we are. surely a bleep on the screen of history.  now the danger lies that precedent has been set- so any goverment can say- well the leader of the "free" world did so- so why not I ??

these days the threat isnt of more rights but of less. ie patriact 1 + 2.

lets see war on poverty. [katrina]

war on drugs [show me bug named people 2007 that never tried anything]

and war on terror. [stay tuned, as the secret laws can not be known]

maybe we dont need a government. if we all are created equall- and these are unalienable rights- why would we need a government 200 yrs later?

as i tossed and turned last night i wondered why was life so different wth reagan. then it hit me. we were led to beleve we had a future,  as apposed to todays we are doomed message.  fear and hope. which is more productive.

fear or hope?
