Master called me from work and informed me that we were going to do wax play tonight.  He instructed me to prepare it before he gets home...but I really don't know what that means.  Does that mean I light the candle and let it burn for several hours to get more wax...or do I melt the candle some other way??  I don't really know much about wax play and haven't actually prepared wax before.

Are you sure he wants you to prepare the wax, or to prepare yourself? There isn't much to be done to wax but there maybe things you need to do to yourself to be ready. As always, when in doubt, ask him.

I also want to add that you can prep the area you'll be playing in as well. Such as covering the floor/couch/table you'll be playing on. Is there mood lighting usually used? Music? Fire in the fireplace? All these things could be what he is talking about.

he said prepare the wax...like melt it but that is what I'm not sure of.  Do I just light the candles and let them burn for hours or is there a faster way to melt them?

Shave....put lotion on your skin right before you play....cover anything in the area you will be playing that you don't want wax on....use waxes that are safe for play....the standard house candles usually have oils, scents and burn at higher temps and make them not good candidates for wax play. Enjoy!

The best candles are those cheap religious ones....or you can buy paraffin wax (the kind for canning or home paraffin spas) and melt it in a paraffin spa. That is, in my opinion...the best way. The wax melts at a good temperature so you won't end up with serious burns, it is free of scents and oils that you may be allergic to and there is plenty of it. Add a ladle and have a blast.

Depending on the candles you use lighting them may or may notbe a good idea.
Candles in jars (I call them religious candles) you might want to light, candle sticks need not be lit in fact doing so may cause problems as they may melt away before they can be used.

Personally I would lay out the equipment, prepare the play space (drop cloth, atmosphereic conditions, etc), prepare your body, prepare your mind, before I would worry about lighting the candles.

From what little I've observed, preping for wax play generally means getting whatever area you going to be doing it at ready to go. Usually, some kind of plastic cover for whatever your going to be laying, sitting, standing on (wax doesnt come out of upholstery very easily from I've been told).  Clean up tools are essential, as wax does get everywhere.  If you have wax paper, make that available too; some kinds of wax play involve dripping the candle wax over paper laid on the subs skin, as it can reduce the chances of burns and can make clean-up slightly easier.  Wax of course does play merry hell with any body hair whatsoever, might want to check to see if that applies to what he had in mind.  I remember reading testomonial about what happens when you get wax all over pubic hair.  I seem to recall a lot of "Ouch that F*&(ing HURTS!!" being fequently said.

As for the wax itself,  several candles are better than one.  Light them off about half hour or so before you start, that way the candle has enough time to get a pool of wax built up around the wick.  Pedastal type candles are good candidates to use, as the wide flat area around the wick gives a nice pool of wax, and you'll need enough to keep the wax coming.  That greatly depends on how liberal your master is applying though.  On the better safe than sorry hand get around 8-12 and light them at the same time, the worst that will is you'll ahve to many and not end up using them.

From what I've read, try and ensure all the candels are the same kind of wax.  Beeswax melts at a hotter tempture than normal parafin does, and it would behoove you and the invetiable burns not to get them mixed up.

From what I've read, trying to pre-melt wax into a container doesn't work, as its very hard to keep the tempature even throughout so I wou;dn;t bother trying

Hope that helps a bit.

A decent overview you could reference:

and if what others have said don't sound like the right thing to do according to your Master's vague instructions, perhaps it is best to ask him?

The fact that you couldn't/can't ask these important yet basic questions of your master seems rather silly to me, but here you go:

Wax Play

Wax Play
This is my general wax play design, easily modifiable if you want to
include multiple people.

Supplies: wax, long tip lighter, sheet or tarp, baby oil, knife,
baby powder, blindfold, (if using a crock pot, ladle, spatula,
paintbrush, any other spreading toys that look interesting)

Get the wax: Either two blocks of paraffin and two glassed church
candles melted together in a crock pot, or just the church candles
for easier transporting. I haven't noticed much temperature
derivation using these types of candles, but white wax is harder to
see where it falls and green tends to just look black on a person.
Start prep at least 2 hours before the scene by lighting the candles
or starting the wax to melt. If the candles are cold, it will take
longer and the wax won't melt as evenly

Prep the area: Flat surface is necessary, a bondage or massage
table usually works fine and is padded. Outside is nice because you
don't have to worry about getting wax on anything. If you are on
the floor, put a flannel sheet or comforter down first to keep
things from being too cold. Cover with an old sheet or tarp, and if
you're off the floor, cover the area nearby as well. Wax will get
everywhere! Lay out all supplies beforehand, you don't want to have
to leave burning candles or naked person alone too long. Also, make
sure your area is well-heated. Even though the wax will get them
warm and give them a nice shell, when it comes off they will feel
the cooler air.

Prep the people: Don't wear your good fetish gear! Again, wax will
get everywhere. For the waxer, wear throw away clothes and/or an
apron. For the waxee, get them naked and blindfolded. I like to
have their focus totally on the wax sensations and you don't have to
worry about wax splattering into eyes. Lay them down on the
surface, starting stomach down usually works best.

Start the scene: Start to connect with the bottom by massaging
their skin, letting them relax into position and get used to your
touch. Massage the baby oil onto their skin. Not only does this
feel yummy, but prevents wax from painfully sticking to hair and
makes it much easier to peel or scrape off. Once you're fully into
the scene, you can get into the wax.

Waxing: I start generally about 18 inches above the persons skin.
Get a good full layer all over their body. Be careful about
dripping on the sides as the skin is more sensitive. Once you've
established an initial layer, you can have more fun with sensations,
bringing the wax lower or higher to build heat (the higher the wax,
the more the splatter). You can paint the wax on, let it drip
slowly or just wash it over them with a ladle. The feet are also
lots of fun. On the stomach, be careful of the belly button.
Sometimes it's good just to put a plug of wax in there or cover it
with a cotton ball.

Removing wax: Wax is likely to still be slightly soft and pliable.
If you're peeling the wax, getting as much in one motion is a very
awesome feeling for the sub. Slowly start at the edges and pull up,
gathering the wax as you go. If you scrape, just press down gently
and pull towards the wax and down. There's always a few drips and
splatters to scrape off. If you've used oil, it should come off
fairly easily. Don't try to get off every piece of wax- a good
shower will do the best job at that.

After the wax: Once you've removed the wax, I sprinkle babypowder
all over the skin. The skin is very sensitive at this point and the
cool softness of the powder feels like rose petals just falling
down. You can rub the powder in and smooth over the skin. This
will help dry off some of the oil as well.

If you want to reuse your sheet, put it in the freezer to freeze the
wax, take it outside and get as much as you can off by shaking or
pulling it. Then toss in the washer and drier to remove the rest.

it isn't that I couldn't ask him these simple yet basic questions, and I didn't realize that asking a question of fellow submissives on the "ask a submissive/slave" board was such a ridiculous thing.  So I wanted to impress him without having to ask about the stupid little details...I wanted him to be proud of me for figuring out what to do on my own...so what?  Didn't think I needed to explain that.
