I'm a huge fan of the original and I must admit I was a little skeptical as to how they would appraoch this sequel, but I was pleasantly surprised by the movie.
Though also shot on DV, as the first was, this one has a much more 'in your face' feel, and the various scenes of the infected attacking are very intenses - hand held, shaky, disorienting shots which work beautifully.
The way in which they reintroduce the virus is very good as well, and proves to have a devasting emotional effect on one of the lead characters (which I won't go into, but there are two scenes which book-end this familial plot thread which work magnificently. Robert Carlisle is, as ever, magnificent (and this, surprisingly is only his second horror movie, the first being 1999's Ravenous in which he played the leader of a cannibal cult), and the rest of the cast, particularly the two younger actors, are more than up to scratch.
Overall I was very impressed, and can't wait for the DVD.
(btw, greycap - though this is set in the same 'universe', the plot and even the London settings are sufficiently different that, as was the case with .dark., you could see and enjoy this as a stand alone movie without having seen the first, and also see a completely different perspective (some being from the POV of the infected) on the whole affair. Highly recommended.)
