Status: offline 		 I'm the only one of my HP freak friends who has finished the book....so it's great to have a place to talk about with others who have finished.






Whover replied about the Elder wand was correct,  Draco disarmed Dumbledore...so he was the master of the  elder wand....at Dumbledores death.  Harry disarmed  Draco, although he did not physically take the elder wand from him...i'm guessing that the act in itself  subsequntly made Harry the master of the elder wand as well.

I like your hypothesis better than mine Celeste.  However if JKR picks it up 19 yrs later with Harrys kids at hogwarts...then...it;s not Harry's story anymore so i don't think it could be  considered Harry Potter 8, but a whole new series, or single book concept.  My guess on a  title....would be something regarding Hogwarts...  ( "A return to Hogwarts" ? ) and  a completely new "villian" or threat.

I'd love to know who became Headmaster, and who is teaching defense against the dark arts...etc.
And some damn body better have named their kid Fred!!!!!  
I also thought Luna and Neville would make a cute couple.

Thanks to whoever suggested that "Victoire" was the daughter of Bill and Fluer, that makes sense,  with the little french twist to the name Victoria.

Status: offline 		Trying very hard not to spoil the book for anyone by babbling a bit at the beginning which i happen to be very good at when the mood strikes me so there we go, i think... hopefully  anyway


Am I the only one that wondered what happened to the dursleys after everything, dudley to be more specific since his parents could stuff it? did he become a better person? Did any of his kids become wizards?

I doubt Harry ever even bothered to find out. The Weasley's, Hermione and the DA are far more Harry's family than the the Dursley's. Plus with Ginny's mastery of the Bat Bogie Hex I doubt putting her in the same room as Vernon would be such a good idea.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         I was disapointed that there wasn't more to the goodbyes between The Dursleys and Harry.  I kind of expected at least Petunia to say sorry, or I hope you make or something!  also expected more with Godric's Hallow, fully expected a horcrux to be there.  I think if J.K. does write another book, it will be more like a short stories book, or similiar to the books on Quidditch or Magical Animals and such.  I kind of hope she doesn't write about the kids, (not that I am saying I wouldn't read it!) as an Author, you have to know when to end it.  I had heard from a friend of mine that JK will be writing for adults for a while. (writing for kids is difficult!) though I wouldn't blame her if she uses a pen name. lol.

I wondered that too, not sure anybody would particularly care what happened to the Dursleys...however it was really touching to see Dudley's goodbye.
 
Since this last book wasn't centred around Hogwarts I would love to read more stories of the school.  I missed all the Hogwarts traditions and the teachers, etc.  I adore McGonagall!  I loved the bit when Kreacher led the house-elves into battle.. just classic!

My daughter and I were talking about that very thing last night. If it was there, we both missed it as well. Rowling, I thought, had said something along the lines of an act of desperation was going to cause an older character to cast magic though they had never cast it before and I believe the source was Muggle-net.

Anyone catch this reference and figure out to what it referred??

Read the book in two days but needed a couple of days to digest it all. What unbelievable tripe! Does J.K. seriously expect us to believe that a seventeen year old boy and a seventeen year old girl, alone in a tent in the woods together, would not get it on?

Okay, I’m kidding, I loved the book – but that question did occur to me.

And I did love the book, it is a fitting climax to the saga filled with adventure, mystery, action, sadness, but ultimately triumph and a happy ending. Many questions were answered but many still remain but then a good author always leaves you wanting more. Like others I wonder what became of Moody’s body, etc but an author, like any artist sooner or later has to stop and say "it is finished." Don’t get me wrong, I would love more Harry Potter books (sequels or prequels) but I understand if J.K. chooses to do no more.

My big question: just what the hell was that struggling, whiny, baby thing at "Kings Cross," at the end of the book? I took it to be the piece of Riddle’s soul that was in Harry (and got left behind when Harry returned) but I’m not sure.

As for what becomes of our beloved characters, well, we’ll never get full biographies but it is fun to speculate. Too many to cover them all but here’s a few I’ve been thinking about.

Professor McGonagle – The obvious new Headmistress of Hogwarts. She’ll have a good tenure with the only thorn in her side being constant unwanted advice from the Snape portrait in her office (hey, Snape was Headmaster, his portrait should go up).

George – the loss of his twin brother has to be devastating for him but he’ll eventually pick himself up and continue the joke shop (maybe percy will do the books).

Harry, Ginny, Ron, and Hermione – First, they all have a little catch up learning to do at Hogwarts (Ginny has another whole year) although I am sure that Harry (and probably Hermione and Ron as well) will automatically be given full marks in DADA. It will be a double wedding. Then a long honeymoon. They deserve it.

Harry will seriously consider playing professional quiditch (Ron desperately hopes he’ll be picked up by the Canons) but he decides to become an auror instead. Joined by Ginny, Hermione and Ron they will be quite the team and put the kibosh on many dark wizards. Eventually, the knees will start to go, they won’t be able to run as fast and it will be time to retire.

I don’t know about Ginny and Ron but Harry and Hermione will defiantly then go to Hogwarts to teach. Harry, of course will teach DADA and Hermione will probably teach Transfigurations. Harry will be the head of Gyrffindor house of course. In time Harry will become Headmaster of Hogwarts (Hermione will become the new Head of Gyrffindor) where the only thorn in his side will be the portrait of Snap saying things like "you’re just like your father, Potter." He will go down in history as Hogwarts greatest Headmaster although he will always insist that he was second best at most.

Last note: my patronus would be a boar, no doubt about it.

A friend of mine has the theory that Victoire was named for Viktor Krum.

She did, but it defeated her. Lupin (I think) et al came into the room to find her weeping over the boggart, which kept taking the shape of dead Weasley children.

I hope so, though Hogwarts has not had any married teachers in any of the books. Not sure if that's policy or coincidence.

Did you actually read all the way through? Because if you did, you would know that:
 
  • Harry kills Voldemort with his own wand.
  • Harry and Ginny get married and have 3 children-Albus Severus Potter, Lily Potter, and James Potter.

  • Draco gets married (doesn't say to who), and has a son named Scorpius.

I would say policy based on the fact nobody would want to leave thier families unguarded with Voldemort around so they would say singles only....also they wouldn't have time to spend with thier spouse. Of course, now this may change.
