quote:
ORIGINAL: thornhappy I clipped some of this for brevity. I do know that there are commentaries that conflict with the quotes, especially regarding "cheating gentiles". And no one boils you in excrement for disobeying a rabbi. Without entire tractates in front of me, I can't offer the other commentaries. I know that it's really common for anti-semitic orgs to pull those quotes out of context. They are not representative of the current religion, and any rabbi could give you the reasoning and modern interpretation of those excerpts. As an example, take the "Old Testament" for Christians. You can have multiple wives and concubines, but that's not a modern Christian practise. Christians don't stone adulterers. For an atheist, why are you so concerned about a religion that's what, 3% of the US population? And keep dredging up the "best of the KKK" types of material? thornhappy LOL Thats not really how it worked. i grabbed the first site that summarized them. i could care less who did the summarizing. Then i took each author and tractate number and searched for them and i realize that i am the only one on this whole site with a functional search engine, but i took each one and plugged it into a search engine and verified that there were no word variations used to skew the context when compared to the tractrates. i am certianly not going to just throw the equivalent of a bible up so that everyone has to dig out the statements, hell people are to lazy to even verify it when i give them these edited out statements up front! LOL Now there is not to much i can say if yours and every one elses search engines strangely stopped working. i know things like that happen though even to big outfits like norad so i guess i can understand it. Whats the difference what my concerns are? if you have not noticed i am concerned for a lot of things, why would you think this is any different? i do know that i learned a lot from this and one other thread. Some people feel they can poke fun of others religions but cannot seem to get the same humorous chuckle when the playing field is level. Then again maybe that is the new gig be happy and call names because they are laughing so hard. i am sure that you can talk with any christian religious leader and they will tell you that what she (the OP), put up does not represent the modern interpretation of the christian religion. (but it was good for a laugh anyway) Why arent you commenting on that? The same of course goes for the muslim religion, talk to any of their religiouls leaders and they will tell you that a few extemists do not represent their religion either. (but that was good for a war, a 100 year war no less) against the evil ones. Say anything about that lately? i think its interesting that certain people can laugh at other religions, and go to war using other religions, but fail to laugh at their own when simply quoting the text from the talmud. In fact look back at all the name calling? (the quickest way to lose credibility) It seems fundamentalists, extremists, far right and far left kooks, always manage to interpret their religion ass backwards or at least literally. you can find statements as i illustrated above in virtually any religion, pick one. LOL You can likewise find fundamentalists who will latch on to those very tractrates/verses regardless how the reverends and rabbi's and preachers would like to avoid going there, and use it to do nasty things that suit the pupose for the moment. Are you willing to go on record and say there are no jewish fundamentalists out there who would not take this stuff literally regardless of the rabbi's teachings? Frankly when it was pointed out that it came from the kkk i was suprised that they quoted the tractates correctly. i would have thought they would have changed a few words to really skew the context. i agree with you on conflicts. Like most religions and our laws that govern this country many of these are only tapped into when needed to get whatever the desired result is that person wants to obtain. So if you want to view the whole set of tractrates just use your search engine and use whatever interpretation you wish. (everyone else does) The nice thing about being an atheist is that i am not chained to thinly defending (if there is a defense at all), this sort of thing to anyone who bothered to take the time to read it. my religion is my own. freedom.
