Posting a photogrpah or your words, you place them in the public domain.  They can be stolen and misused.  Meh - I think many people believe that will never happen.  But it always happens.

I enjoy photographs purely on aesthetics.  You can't judge a person by the photograph.  Remember that the person who is in front of the camera and not always behind it (unlike us) - it's the person behind the camera whos personality is coming across, not the people in the image itself.

It also caused me to wonder.... do people also copy the words too.  Am I reading this person's words or maybe someone else!

You can actually search for key phrases in a profile and see how many names Google comes up with. So it is possible to check for the duplication of profile content.

For example if I type the following in Google with the quotation marks:

"I have often expressed that the lifestyle and life in general is like a jewel"

I get one profile listed, yours.

You can also digitally tag images so they can be traced as they are spread across the web I know of one service provider but it’s expensive.

Luci,
I don't know if anyone recalls my original avatar (it's on my profile..shows only the bottom of my face and wearing a black bustier)

Uh, yeah[8D], I seem to recall that....lol

I have had several subs email me that they have seen my pics posted elsewhere.. It didn't bother me much.. I guess I should be a bit more careful though..

For reference, I can see why they would take your pictures - you are really beautiful! Hope you don't mind I added my two cents. :)

Thank you.. and I don't mind a bit[;)]..

alivingdoll -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/20/2007 10:15:08 AM)

If I was available a picture might draw my first glance to read more of the profile ,but there's no proof that's who the person is and being driven by interest due to someones pic can be a deception .Just because they provide pics doesn't mean they are what that image repersents .I don't put my pics online at all anymore I learned my lesson years ago on aol .Let me share a very negative experience with pics -

My former master and I had a blog we both updated with pictures and our words ,turns out a local female in our social circle   took some of the pictures and created an aol profile. she began an online relationship with a dom from another state they chatted online and on the phone for over a yr.

As a surprise this Dom decided to show up and surprise her at a vendor fair /kinkfest she had told him she was going to this event , which my master and I were in attendance too .Imagine my surprise and my master's when this complete stranger grabs me and plants this huge kiss on me (my master was looking at something at a booth )only to turn his head too see me being kissed lol it's funny  now but not so much then .

He steels his reaction as this man pulls out pics of me we knew where they came from but I wasn't the one having this relationship with him he clearly was confused .so we all went and talked and that's when I learned of this woman's deception .she provided fresh pics cause we updated our blog so he never thought she wasn't who she claimed too be .He called her and she was dreadfully sick and couldn't meet him she had alot of excuses that's why he just showed up as a surprise .So he kept quiet about meeting the person who's images she was pretending to be.

He had invested feelings for this person thinking he knew her and  what she looked like only to find out that was my image and him and I never talked before. He was very upset and i'm sure hurt by her lies ,we exchanged info and kept in touch in order to find this woman .she had to be part of our extended circle cause our blog was private only .

We later found out who it was, I confronted her only to be told "it's only aol you can be who ever you want" I asked why me of all people ?she answered  i needed more than the standard one pic and you had so many  on your blog ,she must have issues to do something like that who knows how many men out there have my pics and was decieved by her !

A picture to a mentally unstable bored person can be life changing to slip into someone elses idenity that type of escape happens .careful who you are carrying on with without meeting them .Be selective who gets your image out there

My pics on my blog had my masters name on them. we thought theft of my pics wouldn't be an issue, but with photoshop and cropping anything can be lifted and restored .Nothing you put online is owned by you unless you get a copywrite this includes wonderful poems and profiles( online means in everyones hands )

Rushemery -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/20/2007 3:06:00 PM)

I read profiles because I get a kick out of them, I dont go with pictures because prople do lie but its nice to put a face with someones words. and I agree with someone who wrote about seeing someones eyes, Im an eye guy thats actually the first thing I look at after they turn around!
I once had a lady drive 2 hours from Pa to visit me only to be turned around and told not to contact me because she lied about her looks, she was really nice made me laugh but there are just some things that dont attract me. I have also noticed on many sites the prettest girls are normally spammers or cam girls if not men in womens clothing lol

This topic has come up from time to time... and it actually has been on the list for abit.  Now motivation for starting this thread is alittle more personal and I will share that in a moment.

So my questions... what value do you place on the profiles with pictures.  Do you ignore profiles without pictures out right.  Do you automatically assign more value to a profile with picture(s).

Now the motivation:  I received a kindly email this evening.  The person was kind enough share with me that they saw another profile that was rather obviously a picture of me... but with the face cropped out.  Needless to say.. this event had a serious reinforcement of questioning the picture of a profile.  It also caused me to wonder.... do people also copy the words too.  Am I reading this person's words or maybe someone else!

so what are your thoughts?

(Personally, and it may just be me, I prefer pictures that show massive amounts of cleavage).

(Like I said...it could just be me)

goodgirl08 -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/20/2007 6:59:31 PM)

I think it's weird if someone seems reluctant to provide a picture. I would assume married or insecure, both of which are bad. But my feelings about physical attraction have little to do with aesthetics.

There's a story I tell to my friends about this boy who has taken a few classes at my school (I go to a women's college so this is somewhat unusual). For about a year I would see him around and think to myself, in these exact words, "That is one of the ugliest people I've ever seen." He is just goofy looking, ridiculously skinny, wears girls' jeans, and is prematurely balding. What I did not know at the time is that he is also extremely confident, to the point of arrogance, and also very intelligent. He became friends with one of my friends, we met one night and he absolutely, 100% seduced me and I am now incredibly attracted to him and have done a lot of ridiculous things to please him (sexually and non-sexually). And I'm not talking about any inner beauty shit. This is burning hot, raw sexiness that has nothing to do with aesthetics and everything to do with energy. Mmmmm. So, the lesson is pictures might seem important from behind a computer screen (or even in person at first) but you never know what could happen. ;)

You're welcome and it's all true.  Yeah, I miss the old one too.  Someone else started using it and it would freak me out to read their words beside "my" avatar and they kept posting with it so I changed.  Then, a second person started using it as well.  Now, neither of them seem to be posting.  They just used it long enough for me to change and then they dropped it, I guess.  Oh well, I loved it too but I'm kind of  used to this one now.  Maybe I'll change it back if the mood strikes[:)]..............luci

Kellendra -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/23/2007 6:15:35 AM)

I had a photo up for awhile....but as I am only out for friendship and a laugh I figured it doesn't matter overly if I look like the back end of a bus. Any friends I chat with can see my little picture in the yahoo box thingy, but again it doesn't really matter.

And if anyone chose to steal the picture that I had put up..can only say I hope they gave me longer legs.

Plus, I wouldn't want to think someone is just agreeing with me on the forums 'cause I have great tits[:D].

Haha, you've seen my face, and you do have great tits, LOL.
I don't think picture stealing is an unusual phenomenon.  A lot of pictures are watermarked for that reason.
But hey, I have great tits, too, so enjoy! [8D]
And I agree, the written word is much more valuable than a photo.

Am I the only one who didn't get to see these "great tits"? *Sniff* I feel so udderly unloved...[:(]

But seriously, I think people trust you more if there's a picture next to the person, hopefully one that semi-accurately represents you, so people can't just say, "Yeah, he/she/it/they can say anything they want to with the Internet's anonymity"...But you make a compelling argument about face-stealing online! Of course, if someone else wants to look like me, rather than some airbrushed muscleman, they need professional help...From a licensed psychiatrist![;)]

That said, I've gotten a few people writing in JUST about my pic, commenting (mostly negative) about my physique...Gotta remember not to take that personally, none of "them" were brave enough to post "their" pictures! (I put "them" in quotes because it could be multiple identities of the same person...)

Raechard -> RE: the value of a picture? (11/23/2007 3:02:28 PM)

The last time someone did a valuation on pictures they were worth one thousand words. This was some time ago when resolution was bad and nowadays people can expect more words for their images I expect.[8|]
