Good, now we have both sides represented equally, instead of just you, Celticlords, Sanity and Al's right wing, raving spin...

And I read through some of them... most of the issues are history I was alive and paying attention through (like the Keating scandal)

Do you really want to bring up Obama's drug use though? After all, you guys helped elect a Cokehead/alcoholic...and look at where that got us.

There really wasn't a topic to begin with... just another attempt at distorting the truth about Obama. Now, at least, the thread has some substance to it... stuff to talk about. Not just lunatic ravings.

Ahhhh....I'm going to miss all the banter after Obama anounces his VP.  I'll be up in the North Woods, no TV, no internet for about a week, just me, my boat and some water ski's and oh yea the wife to drive the boat while I ski.

    I'm outta here,

Honestly, I don't care about his experimental use when he was basicly a kid.  It was just on the list from the same site you posted your list from.

The thing is, instead of addressing the topic of the article that was found, folks decided it was better to just throw out the claims about extremists pulling stuff out of nowhere, and that the less extreme elements of public knows he accomplished quite a bit.  I asked for examples, and now here we are again exchanging scandals.  Instead of you propping up the candidate you are backing you are showing examples of why the other guy sucks.  Know what I mean?

I have already stated a couple of things that I thing Obama accomplished, and that I am glad he was a part of.  Like the getting an employment office opened closer to the housing project on 95th street, and his work in getting asbestos removed from those same projects.  I am actually interested in some accomplishments of his, legislative or executive.  There is so little that voters actually know about the man, that I figured this would be a good chance for those that are voting for him to blow his horn.  Guess I was wrong...

    As always,

Hey, I'm going to write a "body of work" on why bicycles can't fly!
    "Because they can't!"
Yup, I bet this guy is real popular on the loading docks!
"Hey Mike, did you know that Obama was president of Harvard Law Review?"
"No shit, Larry? Well that seals it, I love reading about "Tort Law" in my spare time, who cares what the Jets are doing anyway!"
Oh yeah, he'll be real popular with the Teamsters!

The article could have been about why mimes paint their faces white...

The issue is that his campaign until confronted had claimed that he had never written for the publication, which was rather unusual for a president of the publication.  This is the first article that has been admitted to, the topic is kind of on point though, as it fits in with him distancing himself from these types of issues (not leaving a paper trail).

At least that is what my interest in the original story is.

Oh, and Thadius, The reason I did the entire list is quite simple: to the casual reader of the thread, the fact that McCain has scandal after scandal involving marital infidelity, the Keating S&L crimes, undercutting vets benefits, just makes the point better, I think.

And I notice your list, (on a quick perusal) contains the usual, debunked BS about attending a madrassa, about being a muslim, blah, blah, blah.... the best the right's been able to stick on him is a "six degrees of seperation" connection to a land deal scandal. (Quick! Pull Ken Starr out of retirement! Maybe the GOP can pressure him into a minor purjury charge like they did with Clinton!)

Meanwhile, back in the White House, we have Darth Vader and "Junior" plotting ways to re-ignite the cold war, extend the middle east conflicts, and generally lie about anything and everything. (The unoffical motto of the Bush administration: never tell the truth when a lie will do.)

I know a lot of you guys have me pegged as some kinf of yellow-dog type, but it's not the case. I've voted split ticket before, and probably will do so again. (At least on local representative elections.) I went into this election year with one basic mantra: whoever wins, it's still going to be an improvement. Bush and his shadow government are THAT bad. But it becomes a question of extent: ultimately, I think McCain is pretty centrist (but then Bill O'Riely seems centrist by comparison to a-holes like Cheaney) but he just isn't centrist enough. We've got some serious problems with adherence to Constitutional rule of law in this country, AND the overwhelming shift of power to the Executive branch. To me, THAT has to be corrected, and fast.

I just don't see the likes of John McCain rolling back those powers to anywhere close to pre-Bush levels. Whereas, with Obama, we probably have a shot.

I could care less about if Obama published one paper here or there, or had more best sellers than fucking Stephen King... look at your own sig line... look at the guys McCain's been in bed with through the years... it's sickening. Keating was just the tip of the iceberg.

I'd rather have an inexperienced kid at the helm, keeping the ship on a straight course,  than another fucking pirate who wants to ram the next fleet he sees on the horizion.

I was just walking over to Subway to get myself one of their $5 foot long sandwiches, and it occurred to me that, hey, if the guy can write six pages on why fetuses can't sue their mothers, you would think he had ought to be able to give a straight answer as to his opinion of when a fetus becomes a human being.

    Maybe it's just me though.

And here everybody claims that he's never done anything...

    quote:

Exclusive: Obama's lost law review article

As president of the Harvard Law Review and a law professor in Chicago, Senator Barack Obama refined his legal thinking, but left a scant paper trail. His name doesn't appear on any legal scholarship.

But an unsigned — and previously unattributed — 1990 article unearthed by Politico offers a glimpse at Obama's views on abortion policy and the law during his student days, and provides a rare addition to his body of work.

You must be clutching at straws, if your best arguement comes from something written in 1990.

Wait, dont tell me, this isnt another anti Obama thread, its just " A human interest story "  a b/s claim if ever i heard one. I have yet to see you start one "Human interest story " about McCain, except the one with the misleading title.

I don't think you quite understand.

    1) As a scholar, as a lawyer, as head of the Harvard law Review, and as a state and federal legislator, there should be tons of work attributable to Barack Obama. But besides his two books, there is just this one thing! The fact that this seems to be all that can be found is detrimental to him and not the reverse, hence the title of this thread.

    2) This is where political threads go. It's all right to discuss politics here! And one doesn't need to pretend to be non-partisan in order to post here, as you seem to believe. If we were all non-partisans then it wouldn't really be politics, would it.

    3)  Why so much interest in labeling a story. Is that your way of changing a thread into a personal attack, in order to deflect it from its original topic... and why so much venom.

Does the British left really love Obama that much?

Firstly although i have social views, i am not left wing and probably closer to the right, as Meatcleaver or Reality could tell you. I thought my defence fo Maggie Thatcher would have been a clue. Personally speaking, i dont think either candidate will stray too far from current foreign policy, just the same as Brown and Cameron will maintain the status quo after our next election. Hope springs eternal though.

The reason i posed the question was as follows, You claimed to have posted the thread about Obamas long lost brother, as human interest. I am just asking why every human interest thread you post is about the one candidate.

I am sorry that you viewed it as a personal attack and not as a question. Show me the venom i posted ? No name calling, no personal insult, All i see is a valid question.

    Edited for spelling.

Who isn't "closer to the right" when compared to certain others here? On this issue though, even according to the last parts of your above paragraph, you seem to lean well to the left to me. Else, please further explain this "hope" that you wrote of...

    quote:

I don't claim that they're all human interest stories, and they're not. Where do you get the idea that they are or that they should be? Why does arguing over their type even matter, except as a way to try to change the subject of the thread. My posts include all kinds of stories and articles, and I post whatever I think is of interest. Politically speaking, Obama is far more Socialist than McCain, and I vehemently oppose electing someone so politically extreme as Obama to the presidency and I'm not ashamed of presenting that viewpoint.

    quote:

I am sorry that you viewed it as a personal attack and not as a question. Show me the venom i posted ? No name calling, no personal insult, All i see is a valid question.

It was your initial "clutching at straws" remark, the "if your best arguement..." remark, the "Wait, dont tell me,..." remark, etcetera.

Perhaps I took it wrong. Perhaps more anger came through than you realize, or intended. But who am I to judge? I might not be in the best position, all I can do is guess. It's all a matter of perception, and inflection, and the fact that a lot of our interpersonal communication gets lost when trying to discuss issues through this relatively poor medium.

So, can anyone quote John McCains confession to the North Vietnamese?  He has admitted to it time and time again.  Did he mention Jane Fonda?
