Sweet Potato Casserole

What do you think if I made this and at the last minute added some marshmallows? Would it be too sweet?
I've made sweet potato souffle which I love more so than the regular ones. Then again I'm someone who can bake a yam and eat it for dinner too.
The family just doesn't seem to get into it much. So if I could disguise it like their norm. Perhaps they would try more of it...and then I could make it every holiday?

this isn't a "Holiday" recipe, but it's a recipe...all modesty aside, my chilli kicks ass! lol

i'm not good with measurements here, so just use your best judgement and common sense...

Here's how i make my chilli:
Ingredients:
Ground Beef
Fresh Cilantro
Green Peppers
Red Peppers
Onions (white)
Garlic
Chilli powder
Can of pink beans (that come in water and salt only)
Olive Oil
Worchesire sauce (excuse the spelling!)
Can of whole tomatoes

Directions: Add a dash of olive oil to a pot, toss in there chopped green peppers and red peppers, then the onions...just let those veggies sautee a bit in the pot, then get the ground beef add some worchesire sauce to it, some salt and pepper, add the crushed garlic (all to taste) then put the ground beef in the pot, add the chilli powder, again to taste, and let it brown for a bit.....then add the can of whole or crushed tomoatoes, i personally like crushed tomatoes better, but it's up to you.....then you can add some more spice to it, chop some habanero peppers if you like and add that, or jalapenos, thats all to taste.....then, once it's nice and browned add the can of pink beans, and the chopped cilantro, use as much as you like, i use a good handful and it really gives my chilli a great taste...I serve my chilli with white rice, and believe me, everyone that's had my chilli can't get enough of it! : )

Depends on the holiday I think. What country you hail from and what your traditions as well.

Anyway, we eat chili every christmas eve before gifts get opened. My parents started opening them on christmas eve when my brothers and sisters were young and waking up at 2am to open gifts.
Doug's mother used to make chili that night before opening their gifts...hence. to bring some of his family into mine. For the last 6 years we eat chili.

i'd heard of this recipe before and never tried it until last weekend. It was fun to make, as well as eat. It's a very sweet cakelike dessert which comes out of the oven already glazed. The dough breaks off into little bitesized balls (no pun intended).

Monkey Bread Recipe

4 cans of ready to bake dinner biscuits

1-1/2 cup sugar, divided

1-1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

1/8 teaspoon of ginger (or just a pinch even)

1-1/2 stick butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 cup evaporated milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Cut each biscuit into four pieces. Combine 1/2 cup of the sugar,

cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Roll biscuits in sugar mixture. Place

in greased bundt pan. Bring butter, brown sugar, remaining sugar

and evaporated milk to a boil. Pour immediately over biscuits.

Bake for 45 minutes. Remove immediately from pan.

I was sitting here reading your newest recipe. You reminded me I had 6 pumpkin pies in the oven, thank you.
Over time, I'm going to try out everyone's recipes. The way I see it if they were'nt proud of them they would'nt be sharing? I just hope I can pull them all off the way they should be.
Every holiday I cook for about 35. Then of course, baking and candy for extended family. I've made 400 peanut butter cups already this year. Tomorrow I'm taking the day off to make a few batches of fudge. I have'nt killed anyone yet so I must be doing ok.
The pie sounds wonderful as well. Hmm..I wonder if we need another pie? Technically I've only made fruit ones so far...so we may.

Roast duckling stuffed with a bouquet garni of fresh sage and rosemary, cellery, carrots, onions, garlic, and lemon rind. Rub the bird down with a pinch of sage and salt to cure it the day before you roast, it draws the moisture out of the fat and helps the skin to crisp instead of blanch. I'm serving it with corn on the cob, sauteed asparagus, and herb roasted red potatoes. I'll probably take the fat and drippings that render and use them to make a wine-based gravy. I think I'll bake some fresh biscuits, as well.

The missus is gonna get some down-time this week. I am so psyched! Had to call the family, tell them we weren't coming to the usual gathering because not god, love, nor money is gonna make either of us get dressed, much less climb out of bed. (Besides - it amuses her when I cook wearing nothing but an apron)

Mustard Carrots

2 lbs of carrots, cut up, cooked until tender and drained.
2 tbs of butter or margarine softened
1/4 cup of packed brown sugar
1 to 2 tbs of prepared mustard
salt and pepper to taste

Mix all ingredient except the carrots in a sauce pan, using just 1 of the 2 tbs of prepared mustard. Heat and stir until thoroughly mixed. Once heated and mixed add remaining mustard to taste. Pour over carrots and serve nice and hot :) Serves about 6 to 8 people.

This Thanksgiving I'm making a turkey seasoned with kosher salt and black pepper, garlic, some fresh sage, thyme and rosemary twigs and a good butter rub. I'm trying out this recipe I got for "corn casserole" from the food network site, Dena the southern cook....it's sweet corn, creamed corn, sour cream, cheddar cheese, jiffy corn muffin mix, and butter... I'm baking some sweet potatoes, making a fresh mixed green salad, and my stuffing which I use the sage & onion bread crumbs, (peppridge farm) I add celery, white onions, italian sausage, golden apples, toasted crushed walnuts, a dash of cayene papper, black pepper, olive oil, and anything else I find that will give it a good taste! I'll let you all know how that turned out! lol....plus apple pie, which will be bought from a bakery cause I've never baked a pie in my life and don't think thanksgiving is the right time to experiment with pies! lol.....I bought a good wine, one of my favorites, it's from spain called "Campo Viejo" it's a red wine and has a wonderful rich taste to it...

Well, I wish All here a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

~hugs~

My sister, mom, and I all make mashed potatoes the same way and it comes out soooo good! We make fresh potatoes, boil them as you normally would, then add milk, cream cheese, a dash of mustard, butter, black pepper, and if you like some sour cream...the cream cheese and mustard really gives it a kick.
We also make our corn on the cob a lil different, we boil it with one part water one part evaporated milk and butter, and it makes a difference as well.

For meat loaf, we make it the meat loaf, we use the lipton recipe soup mix, then make the mash potatoes, once the meat loaf is ready we cover it with mashed potatoes, on top and all around, as you'd would with frosting on a cake, then we sprinkle some paprika all over and set it back in the oven....it makes for a good presentation and tastes great.

Just wanted to let everyone know the cranberrie mango apple sauce was loved by many. We have a lot of food left over...but we always do.
Only one did not care much for it, but I sort of knew he had to have his canned variety anyway.
As he grows his tastes will mature a bit.

Thank you.
Now...I have to search the other recipes for an encore.

I posted the eggnog recipe but I had never made it before tonight; had tasted a lot of it though. But I just made a batch to take to a party tomorrow night and it turned out all right. I tried to only make 1/2 batch and it still fills the biggest mixing bowl I have.

Didn't exactly stick to the recipe -- found out I don't have any cinnamon and just used bourbon and some brandy, but it tastes ok to me. Maybe I'll toss in some cinnamon tomorrow.

Only thing I've noticed is I may have whipped the heavy cream too much because I try to mix it in but then it seems to float back to the top after it sits a while. After I drink another glass I probably won't care.

I tried the eggnog recipe. It was fabulous. I just love eggnog...well I think I've said that before.

Now if we could only make it low cal yet still retain ALL of it's flavor.

Glazed Carrots

1 16 oz bag of fresh baby carrots
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
4 Tablespoons butter
1/4 cup orange juice
4 Tablespoons Kentucky Bourbon whiskey
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp ground cloves

Cook carrots until tender crisp. Drain. Add other ingredients and toss to glaze. (Best when done the day before and the carrots have time to absorb the flavors)
