slaveluci -> Another a**hole thinks he's a "master"...as seen on "Oprah" (5/8/2007 4:25:46 PM)

Did anyone else see today's "Oprah" show?  i don't usually watch but was home today and saw it was going to be about a woman whose abuse by her husband had been caught on tape.  i couldn't resist so i watched and it was about this horrible husband who abused his wife physically and emotionally and, during one particular incident, had their 13 yr. old son videotape the whole incident.  The children were witness to the abuse on many occasions and had even been made to participate by calling their mother a "white ho slut" and by helping him restrain her.  It just made you really want to see the guy blown away.  He ended up getting something like 36 years in Attica.  Interesting enough story and the show was about to go off.  Then, the bomb was dropped.  A co-worker who had helped the wife escape the situation stated that she had often heard the wife on the phone with hubby calling him.........you guessed it[:@]........"master."  i cringed thinking "Oh great, wonderful thing to say to the world-wide viewing Oprah audience right as she signs off."  So many people already think bdsm is all about abuse anyway and now they've heard this woman saying she was made to refer to her husband as "master" after the horror stories she had just told and that had been shown on tape.  A family member (who does not know about the M/s dynamic Master and i have) was watching with me and when she heard this about this lady having to call her husband "master," she groaned and shook her head as if to say, "how disgusting."  It made me feel a twinge of sadness because i know what my Master represents to me and to think that people all over the country hearing that statement will think "masters" are the trash that this guy is is just sad to me.  Anyone else see it and have similar (or different) thoughts?

i didn't see the episode yet but saw promos for it, and now that you've described it a bit maybe i'll try to watch (it repeats like 10X a day here). i did see him being verbally abusive and shaking her a bit in the promos, but as i don't know the story, i'll hold off on any making any judgements. but it is unfortunate to hear that this may be yet another M/s relationship poorly and horribly portrayed by the media. and that they didn't even mention the "Master" thing until the show was going off the air...typical. *smh*

i didn't get any indication whatsoever that it really is an M/s relationship.  She never said anything about it being so, only that she was forced to call him "master."  From all indications throughout the show, it was a vanilla relationship.  It was only at the very end that it was thrown out that he made her call him "master."  Seemed to me to just be a very abusive marriage in which the abuser had the feeling that he was indeed her master, whether she knew it or not [image]http://www.collarchat.com/image/s13.gif[/image]....kind of an M/s relationship with no "s."  i'm sure you're judgements won't mirror mine - we've been down that road too many times[:)] - but to me, it was sickening.  Mostly because innocent children were being forced to watch and participate in their mother's abuse and the older son seemed to have become so jaded that he could just sit there and video the abuse with virtually no emotion showing.  As a matter of fact, he was parroting back the same abusive words his father was throwing out and placing the blame for the abuse onto his mother.  There is never any excuse for children to be exposed to such behavior...........luci

I didn't see the episode either, but that has been something that has been around almost as long as the lifestyle itself.  Abusive jerks who want to hide behind it as an 'excuse' for what they are doing.  I agree the general populace (i.e., the Oprah audience) has no clue as to the difference.  It is a sad state of affairs, but on such a national level, there really isn't much W/we as a community can do about it.  Not unless W/we can talk Oprah into an honest 'equality in journalism' to allow it to be contridicted.

Back to the point.  There is always going to be some idiot who thinks BDSM is a perfect facade to hide behind.  When it comes down to it, a lot of it might seem similar on the surface <BIG FLASHING SIGN> except the consent.  It's always going to be hard for U/us to be accepted as long as W/we as a community allow these types to go unexposed.  There should be a level of outrage within our communities when W/we see this happening.

You mean its not?  The greater majority of people out here its about abuse, knowingly or not. i have walked from several otherwise juicy situations for that very reason!

*Watch* Opra Winfrey? You mean like on television?
I'd rather chew on tinfoil.
Aren't you required to have an i.q. of 90 or under to watch that kind of stuff?

Don't be surprised.  I've often said that My balls are bigger then most men's.

proudsub -> RE: Another a**hole thinks he's a "master"...as seen on "Oprah" (5/8/2007 6:46:56 PM)

I saw it.  There was nothing D/s about it, it was clearly abuse. I think she only called him master because he probably demanded it and she tried to keep the peace.

HatarAes -> RE: Another a**hole thinks he's a "master"...as seen on "Oprah" (5/8/2007 6:55:39 PM)

maybe the man just had alot of perverted thoughts, and never knew how to express em. he may have also been unedjucated about the scene, he may have been abe to vent more peacefully if he did? ya also gotta keep in mind oprah doesnt realy tell the whole story, i aint tryin to defend the psycho, but most people dont keep their mind open about these things, and look at it like this poor mis-guided woman got sucked into a "sick" perverted game. where really at one point, she may have wanted it? ill never really know, nor will i care that much. and the only way ill watch oprah is if she buys me a car.

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Another a**hole thinks he's a "master"...as seen on "Oprah" (5/8/2007 9:31:25 PM)

watching it now and clearly she was abused by a man who could not control his anger and hands.

popeye1250 -> RE: Another a**hole thinks he's a "master"...as seen on "Oprah" (5/8/2007 10:09:11 PM)

People like that guy will have all the psycho babble people saying he had "a bad childhood", he's "misunderstood", and all kinds of other meaningless drivel.
For once I'd like to see one of those bubble heads say; "Well Opra, the diagnosis is clear! This guy needs a good fuckin' beating!"

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Another a**hole thinks he's a "master"...as seen on "Oprah" (5/8/2007 10:21:58 PM)

she contacted the woman's ex in prison and through his attorney, he declined an interview with her.  O said she would like to hear his said of the story ...to get inside his head however i agree with you - he does need a serious ass whuppin'!  even the state's prosecutor said that the guy showed no remorse while in court ...that he was flirting with the female jurors like he was the king of the world.  despite his sentence to 36yrs in prison he can be paroled at anytime hopefully not until 18yrs

I wouldn't want to be in his ex's shoes when he gets out. Hopefully she can hide well.

Food for thought: Don't believe everything you see on TV.

i don't but there are those who do.  As someone mentioned above, Oprah's audience as a whole probably has no real concept of what bdsm or a "master" really is.  Take a  look around these forums.  It's hard to find any real agreement here between people who identify as living it, for pete's sake.

Food for thought:  Every response you give here doesn't have to be so rude.  i don't think anyone indicated they believe everything they see on tv.  We were simply having a discussion as to how having that word thrown into the mix, especially right at the end, couldn't possibly have anything but a negative effect.....slave luci

Yeah, with any luck all the convicts up in his cellblock in Attica were watching Oprah yesterday.  He was so fond of calling her his "heifer" i was thinking  maybe "Bubba" will make this jerk his own personal "heifer" and show him what it feels like to be on the receiving end of abuse for a change[:D]....slave luci
