Not that these are things I stumble across on the boards with any frequency... I'm just saying... they irk me to see them used erroneously:
Dear and Deer
Breech and Breach

These (when used perpetually in emails or lengthy, serious posts):
Wanna instead of Want to
Gonna instead of Going to
Shoulda instead of Should have
Coulda instead of Could have
Woulda instead of Would have

Lets instead of Let's (it's a contraction people!) ~ And for that matter, just about any other contraction you can bring to mind.

LOL, has someone been having prostrate problems? That can be a problem for a submissive.

RFL, especially if they expect the submissive to be prostrate during the session!

One that i always notice that is annoying is people confusing "affect" and "effect."  And, i'll admit one of mine.  i always want to spell "judgmental" as "judgemental"....trying to remember to leave that "e" out........luci

Lose vs Loose.
  • Lose = to cease to have something or to fail to win: "I think I may lose my mind."
  • Loose = as in the opposite of tight: "the dress was too loose about her waist."

Mute vs Moot.
  • Mute = quiet: "The dog was mute and couldn't bark."
  • Moot = as in a "moot" point: no longer requiring a decision. "The question about what color to paint the house is moot, since the house burned down."

Principle and Principal

And an easy way to remember, folks. "The princiPAL is/is not your friend." (Depending on whether or not you got into all sorts of trouble at school).

Rong -> Right (I hope)

definetly -> definitely
simultaniously -> simultaneously
concensus -> consensus
thier -> their (Lets not start on homonym errors)
hiearchy -> hierarchy
dilema -> dilemma
exersize, ecxersice, exersice, exerzise -> exercise
liscence, lisence -> licence
preform -> perform
teh -> the (But that's excusable as a typo... I hope.)

what a list! including some of my favorites - then and than

I think part of this problem has to do with how we learned to spell. People who learned to spell phonetically mis-spell some of the most common words.  Also, while YOU (anyone) may not think you have an accent, that will influence spelling abilities as well.

But I also think that we should blame the people who run this site.  It is so easy to have a spell-check program in place - why don't they have one hear?

Oops!! (giggles)
