Having amassed copious amounts of useless tidbits over the years, I can say that in my many years of watching jeopardy and making and losing virtual fortunes, I am fairly certain that the final jeopardy question was never dealing with sports or pop culture (unless in a very historic and backward glancing fashion) so, I would start reading the sports pages and the poeple magazines and let it go at that, and go with my strengths and be content with my weaknesses.  Put the effort in for the clutches, if you are trioed with a sports fanatic, he or she will wipe your ass anyhow, regardless of how much you can shove into your kidney in even a year long period before you go on the show. Concentrate on  your  greatest  general strengths.

I thought about correcting Marc, but thought that might seem snarky.

Thanks for the links, Ms. Jo.

Also pay particular attention to teams that have *shifted* cities. I've seen a coupla questions like that.

Good points, SH'd. Thanks!

Good point, Ron. Thanks! I'm determined not to turn this into a job, especially since the odds are that they won't call.

Jeopardy finds out what you know, then asks questions as the money runs higher that they assume you wont know the answer to.

So pretend to know all sorts of things about stuff you have no clue about, and they will never ask you those questions.

Second, act like a coke addict who just scored on camera, and you will be considered "a keeper."

LOL!

Sinergy makes a good point. It is (mostly) about the entertainment.

Alex only got annoyed with that guy who won too long. I think we were all conflicted about him. Part of us wanted to keep on wishing him well with his extraordinary knowledge, while our inner shadenfreuden demon was cheering for him to fail.

Indeed. At the audition, the staff seemed hyper-caffeinated and wanted us to sho "energy." I tried to oblige, going into comedian-wannabe mode for the interview. I guess we'll see if it worked.

Snarkiness I can handle, it's snideness that irks me.

Seriously, I didn't know you were gay because I'm not in the habit of reading guy's profiles.  When making the post I did do a quick check of your profile but once I saw you list yourself as a sub, I went from there.  In other words I just assumed you were heterosexual because, well, most people are.  I'm not ashamed to admit it when my own biases get the better of me.  If you were offended in any way, you have my apologies.

Please phrase your response in the form of a question, DC.

Hi DC

I'm going to throw out a bit of different advice- (and this really depends on how your brain works) I wouldn't look at Trivial Pursuit or Guinness records- you need something more readable, because just cramming things like lists of words and definitions on the SAT- generally doesn't work that great (at least for me- ymmv).  If I were in your shoes- and having a bit more knowledge under my belt would make me feel better- trying reading some histories of sports or pop culture- maybe a biog of Madonna  But really- how often is Brittany Spears an answer on that show? I suspect that pop culture isn't really used that often.  Also as a source of readable trivia not yet mentioned- the Uncle John's Unstoppable Bathroom Readers take trivia and put it in a format that gives it more substance- and hence more likely to remain in your brain for more than 30 seconds. And are there any geeks who've broken down what percentage of questions in what category has shown up on Jeopardy?

But I'd try to avoid (yeah, right) getting nervous the night before.  And from my perspective- knowing that I'd read the answer a week before might do more harm than good-it'll slow down your response time.  In short- you've probably got enough in your noggin- the night before go to a movie or get laid.

Good luck!

Sam

DC,

I am doing good. Just been busy at work, and not needing to get on the computer when I get home.

Look me up on the otherside, and I will throw you a few questions.
