Dusted off this thread to give a long-overdue update. Long after I'd given up hope, Jeopardy! did call, and I went to LA last week for a taping. due to a tie, they needed one less challenger than expected, and I drew the short straw. I think they plan to invite me back in April, but haven't gotten the official word yet. Meantime, I definitely need to work on my buzzer technique. Also need to implement some of the great suggestions in this thread. Many thanks for the encouragement, folks!

Is there really a book like that? If so, maybe look to buy it. If not...well, I'm sure I just gave the CMChat crowd a good hoot. [:D] Okay, I'm not a complete moron. There is such a book. good luck.. See what Ken Jennings did to prepare? maybe google him or something.... smart people are on Jeopardy. I doubt it is easy to get on there so congrats!
