Fast Reply - If you'll indulge me a moment, I'm going to hijack this thread a bit to mention a book that I've been reading lately that does speak to a standard that, in my opinion, could be a universal one. The name of the book is Choosing Civility: The Twenty-five Rules of Considerate Conduct authored by P.M. Forni. I'm reading as part of the training that my girl and I are engaged in with etiquette and protocol. The reason I bring it up here is that the author puts forward that a common standard that he feels we (as humans) should share is civility. (Note: I, in no way, imply that anyone hasn't been civil - in fact, I often hold the mirror to myself most of all in judgement of my own actions, and hold others to the standard of courtesy and honesty most often. My words here are for general thought.) "And yet we still need to be able to say yes to some things and no to others as a matter of principle and with enough conviction.We still need to believe in something that will give us our vital daily dose of meaning and motivation. As we grapple with the complexities of our age, I suggest in this book that we agree on one principal: That a crucual measure of our success in life is the way we treat one another every day of our lives." PM Forni. It's a smallish book, available at the library. It's interesting that many people that I speak with on a daily basis will allude to the general lack of manners, the lack of courtesy, respect and civility to one another. It's mentioned enough that I try to hold a mirror up constantly to think about how I treat others - and I'm sorry to say that I've lacked in that area quite too much. My point of this hijack is to say that yes, I believe in common standards of how I would like everyone to interact, as I believe they would be welcome. I also note that this is probably NOT what the OP intended, but I'm going to deliberately go off-key here, with my apologies to the OP. Regards.
