Pffft a lady would not pick her teeth at the table.  A good subbie would already be pre cut into bite sized pieces so we would not have the need.

OK to not completely derail this topic, I have no idea why it is.  But I often say things like "my boy" as opposed to the generic submissive that can denote either gender.  If I need to distinguish I usually just use male and female submissive.

Dearest MsKatHouston,

Hmmm, boy McNuggets, a concept worth looking into, though hang on to
that minted floss, You know how days later a boy bit can suddenly emerge
from places unknown, pesky little tidbits that we can be. And the train left
the tracks many stops back, but i really do associate with being addressed
as boy, takes me to the beginning when obedience and adoration to my
Dearest MotherMistress was the very breath of my every moment.

With Love and Respect, chia* (the pet)

I wouldn't make the seperation between Dom and Domme if I hadn't been 'reared' [in the message board sense] on a site that's mostly full of Dommes. They'd get miffed if I forgot.

Gender neutral = Dominant, submissive, slave

Gender specific = Dom, Domme, girl, boy, boi

I have no issues with the word "subbie". Matter of fact, I use it quite often and not in a derogatory sense. But, then again, I don't differentiate between submissive and slave either.

I once had the pleasure of watching a Domme light up a male submissive whem he said he'd been looking for a "Dominatrix".

It has never been an issue for myself male or female they have always bet pet or slut or bitch. I have always been their owner their mistress or their goddess. Hehe but yeah subbie does make me think of food and chia probably be tasty but I also have an aversion to mayo. *shudders* if it snto in coleslaw i won't touch it.

I agree with Dam' though enough with the labels. in the end when the blindfolds are on and the candle wax dripping onto unsuspecting flesh does it really matter?

Nothing wrong with a little eye candy in the morning.

On the gender specific terms, I tend to use them only when needing to be specific. I prefer calling Mine boys, because that's what they are.  I really don't need a term for a female submissive other than that, since personally, I don't take them, so it's none of My business.

As to Dom and Domme, yes, I'm the latter, but I don't distinguish it by the different pronounciation.  (That Dom-ay hype.)  For message boards, I type it as so most can understand if I am referring to male or female Dominants.  If I recall high school french properly, the difference in gender, with additional letters for most things feminine, might be derived from that.

I think gender specific terms arise when there is an often enough need to distinguish the gender. For me, the gender of the dominant is relevant often enough to feel that having a term that identifies the gender helps. While there is not a coined term for male subs or female subs, malesubs or femsubs are not novel terms.

Cheers,

Sea

first of all... domme is a made up word... it isn't french

dom is not male... it is merely an abbreviation of the word dominant

It is because of the "need to abbreviate" that confusion came into play...

There were always terms that differentiated the terms... dominant woman or female dominant..... dominant male or male dominant.....

Why not just add the few keystrokes necessary to be clear about what is being talked about? It spares confusion & there isn't any reason to create more made up words that no one knows exactly what they mean or how to pronounce
