Status: offline 		I'm not expecting a medical diagnosis miracle but i'd really like any imput on a health condition i have so i might be able to speed along the search of what might be wrong with me.

My symptoms are:  Monthly vomiting, headache, nausea, dizziness, disorientation, joint pain in my neck and shoulders (feels like i need to pop them), exhaustion, what i belive are halucinations, and insomnia after the fact (this could be do to spending most of the 24 hours sleeping.)  It does not occur with my period, but generally a week or two weeks before/after (either or.)..
The vomiting lasts 24 hours and is most often more then 10 times in that 24 hour period ...Anything i put on my stomach will come up right away or within an hour.
The dizziness is usually what onsets the vomiting and nausea..i'll have a sharp intense sensation of dizziness then the vomiting usually follows quickly...After that i dont usually feel dizzy again until i start getting better.
I belive i'm having halucinations because its a vivid waking dream.  I will often become obsessed with a thought or phrase running through my head and i will 'replay it' for a very long time.  One time i was positive that my stomach was several different chambers and that if i could vomit in the right sequence i'd unlock it and i'd be better.  This lasted the whole 24 hours.

These are my only symptoms, i'm generally fine the rest of the month.  (other then it leading to several root canals cause its killing my teeth, grrrr!)

I've been going through this since 98, and spent many years with doctors trying to figure out what could possibly be wrong.  I've had my galbladder removed which helped immensly, and reduced my sickness to once a month, but that only tells me something else is going on to continue my getting sick.  I can generally track when i'll get sick but it tends to follow its own path most of the time..IE, i can track it for a few months then all of a sudden it will switch to the beging of the month or the end, instead of the middle.
After 6 years of "not finding what's wrong" and finally having a doctor accuse me of being bulimic i gave up trying to find the answer.  I'm now in a new state and have health insurance again and am ready to try again to find the answer. 

If anyone has had simular and diagnosed experiences or just some general knowledge i'd be very appreciative of your imput.  I'd like to be able to have some substantial information i can take to a doctor and say "is it possible i have this?".  Even tho i know doctors hate people that self diagnose, i'm really tired of beating around the bush and being told its reflux, depression or some such silly nonsence.

I've tried doing searches on the web and havent been able to find anything that closely matches what i'm going through.  But i do suck at browsing the web..

Status: offline 		Have you went to any health websites like WebMD or similar sites and done a symptoms checker thing? If not it might be good to do that I can try to find some info for you tho if you want. I am not the best at browsing the web but I am better than I used to be.

Status: offline 		Have you ever had an MRI? or a CT scan?  Might be helpful.  SOunds kinf od scarey to me.  Whatever it is I hope you get it figured out!

zindy, yea i checked webmd this morning and got absolutely no hits for "Monthly vomiting", but as i said i REALLY suck at browsing the web..i'm awful lol.  I have a friend that can find anything on the web but he's been really busy at work this morning so hasnt been able to help me search a whole lot.

MsOpal, i requested an MRI at one point but the doctor decided to do a stool sample instead (ugh that was kind of embarassing for me).  After not even getting back the results and going in to get them..the receptionist all of a sudden asks me what i was exposed to in july (WTF, never discussed anything like that with the doctor...scared the hell out of me until i realized she probably had the wrong file).  I never did find out if that stool sample provided any results.  I really wish he had done the MRI instead.

Status: offline 		As i said, its about a week or two weeks before/after my period.  So i cant really be sure if its related to my period at all.  It *might* have something to do with my ovulation so i think visiting an hormon specialst (i dont know how to spell it..heh) would be a wise choice.  When i was young and this was all new i made several appointments to visit one but i was living alone at the time and they were 2 hours away...that was fine, but i ended up getting sick everytime and had to cancel (anything planned more then a month ahead will usually get screwed up by me getting sick)..The one time i did manage to make it down there they had mistakenly forgotten to actually put my appointment into the book and turned me away.

heartfelt...Thanks for the link! No one in my family but me experiences this, but it still might be a good start to take to a doctor.

Status: offline 		I think it's not hormonal.  My brother had his gallbladder removed aswell.  His situation is similar but less severe.  He wakes up, the first bowel movement qualifies as loose stool.  He gets 100-101 degree fevers nearly every night.  Chronic fatigue, some pain, and occasionally trouble keeping food down.  He's been in and out of doctor's offices for weeks.  If he gets an answer that helps, I'll bump this thread with an answer.

Status: offline 		i am glad you have the health insurance now to get it checked out.  Be diligent with your physician until he can find an answer.  Unforunately, we have to be aggressive in order to get answers sometimes.

Status: offline 		Hmm, i dont think it has anything to do with my galbladder being removed, it was taken out years ago.  Since then i dont get sick ALL the time anymore, but still get it monthly unless my body decides to grace me with the occational "month off". 

Probably should have mentioned before about the "Month's off".  Sometimes i will go 2-3 months with out actually vomiting or being bed ridden for a day..I still get the dizziness, headache, nausea, joint pain...But those are easy enough to deal with since i've been doing so for 9 years (going on 10, yuck)..

This could be completely different, but I suffered with the same problem for years as a teen (well, from around 11 to 16) and had no help or diagnosis.  Then, when I was 16, my appendix blew.  After that, I was completely 'cured'.
 
Just wondered if there was a link - or I could be being completely useless.

Obviously hormonal is the first thing you go to and it makes sense.  Are you on a BC pill?  It can sometimes help.

Or I'd guess some major food allergy or digestive problem like Crohn's.

Status: offline 		I sympathise with you I went through something very similar and when we finally found out what it was it was hormonal.  Now I just get naseaus (however you spell it) and insomina.  Ive had the insomnia now for almost two weeks and it will stop in a few days hopefully.  I hate it though more than the wanting to be sick.  Every month I used to think shit I'm pregnant it was crap.

I hope you get sorted.  I went to a herbalist and sort treatment naturally and found changing my contraceptive pill helped.

Status: offline 		*nods* I had symptoms like that for 14 months...was my appendix, too.

I say get the MRI-Im no doc, but it could be seizures, migraines, or a tumor....Better just to get it peeked at. Maybe get an ECG too?

I agree with minnetar here. Sometimes we have to be presistant in our own healthcare and let the docs know we aren't giving up on finding what is wrong with us. Sometimes we have to take charge and if your doctor continues to think there is nothing wrong with you then get a different doc.

I'm not on a BC pill, Master's been fixed so we never saw the need. 

Mmmm...is it possible for appendix problems to be going on for 9 years?  This started in oct. of 98, never have any soreness in my lower abdomen.

Things i've thought it might be in the past include an infection that builds up makes me sick, i explell the toxins, i'm better etc...I am allurgic to surgical steel so if they left a metal clip inside me from the gal bladder surgery that could be a problem....
Definately might be hormonal, and started a year after my periods began (late bloomer, didnt start regularly till i was about 18 )..

Meniere's Disease (MD or endolymphatic hydrops) is a disorder of the inner ear associated with a change in the volume of fluid inside a portion of the inner ear called the labyrinth, which includes the membranous labyrinth and the bony labryinth.

When the head moves, endolymph fluid in the membranous labyrinth shifts, telling nerve receptors to signal the brain about the body's motion. If the amount of endolymph increases, doctors believe, the membranous labyrinth can balloon or dilate. If it then ruptures, endolymph fluid can mix with perilymph fluid in the bony labyrinth, causing Meniere's symptoms. The underlying cause of Meniere's is still unknown, though many hypotheses have been advanced.

Symptoms include dizziness, nausea, vomiting, unsteadiness, a sense of fullness in the ear, ringing in the ear (tinnitus), headache, abdominal discomfort and hearing loss, which can increase if the disease progresses. These symptoms occur in three stages of severity, as the disease advances, and can happen with varying frequency, duration and intensity. Usually, attacks are sudden and may last several hours. The very first episode may last longer than 24 hours, but subsequent episodes do not. While children can get MD, it most commonly affects men and women between 20 and 50.

I have menieres disease.  I have attacks at all different times.  It can be brought on by too much salt in my food, hormonal, or from train, plane or car rides.  Even watching something that is dizzy on tv can affect me now and I dont even realise it until an attack comes on.

It may not be this, but it just sounded similar that's all.  Maybe do some research.

I hope you find your problem it sounds horrible.  And I understand.

Status: offline 		Geez sweetie, how terrible is all that!  I'm in the healthcare field, and tons on things pop to mind.  You mentioned an allergy to metal...could there be a link to that? jewelry, earrings etc?  The way you describe your nausea and dizziness reminds me of mild vertigo, and if you are vomiting a lot...perhaps the mental status changes are related to dehydration?  Are you taking any regular medications that could build up and become toxic in your system?  Have you had regular bloodwork to compare your sick bloodwork to your healthy bloodwork? 
It's your obsessive thoughts that really puzzle me.  You may have more than one issue here, where one thing is triggering the other.  I'd definitely suggest a hormone specialist, and even a neurologist as many neurological issues have a side effect of vomiting. You may try an allergist too, as some people have severe reactions all their lives to things they never realized they are allergic to. Have you been tested for lyme disease? RA?  You mentioned having your gall bladder removed helped, which really makes me think you are dealing with some toxin or having a severe allergic reaction.

I truly hope you are seeking therapy to deal with this...even if you arent depressed, this kind of intense problem..and the unknown quality of it has to be a huge stressor.  Any good doc is going to ask you to start logging your food, the products you use(soaps, housecleaning products etc) as well as your menstrual cycle and your symptoms of whatever you have going on here.  My heart goes out to you...hope you get some relief.

Status: offline 		if you added the ability to shit through a keyhole at 30 paces and exchanged that headache for a full bore migraine, you've just described the same symptoms that this slave experiences after ingesting aspirin, oxycontin or anything containing the slightest hint of salicylic acid---e.g. pepto bismol, exedrin.  Topical applications like Carmex, most facial astringents and wart removers also contain salicylic acid and trip this slave's allergic trigger.
 
the first time this slave ever hallucinated was as a wee one, sick with fever and nursemom wasn't aware of the aspirin allergy until this slave told her about the teeter-totter on the ceiling...every time one side would go up, a crowd would cheer...and when it went down, they would gasp...over and over again for hours.
