i have had a problem like this nightly for some time, currently under control with nexium, but i saw the dentist yesterday and my teeth have been damaged; they put me on a Rx toothpaste to harden the enamel again.

Just a word of caution.

Could it be hormonal?  It may be helpful to chart it in relation to your mentstrual cycle.

That was the 1st thing that popped into my mind as well...

if you added the ability to shit through a keyhole at 30 paces and exchanged that headache for a full bore migraine, you've just described the same symptoms that this slave experiences after ingesting aspirin, oxycontin or anything containing the slightest hint of salicylic acid---e.g. pepto bismol, exedrin.  Topical applications like Carmex, most facial astringents and wart removers also contain salicylic acid and trip this slave's allergic trigger.

the first time this slave ever hallucinated was as a wee one, sick with fever and nursemom wasn't aware of the aspirin allergy until this slave told her about the teeter-totter on the ceiling...every time one side would go up, a crowd would cheer...and when it went down, they would gasp...over and over again for hours.

I was thinking migraines also -- don't the symptoms sound close, just minus the headache part?  Can't migraine pain be in other areas like neck and shoulders, not head?  I have migraines related to my menstrual cycle, but they are not bad at all, and easily controlled with Imitrex.  But when I was being diagnosed, they investigated a lot of the symptoms like the ones described in the OP.  It sounds like a hellish migraine cycle, but with the pain not focussed on the head.

Some links you may want to check out:
http://www.biomedcentral.com/1741-7015/3/20

http://www.geocities.com/heartland/hills/4975/cvs_home.html

There are many other illnesses that can by cyclic in nature. You may want to do a search under "cyclic illness" or "cyclic symptoms". I know that I had Lyme disease and there was a distinctly cyclic aspect to my illness.

edited to add that of particular interest, both of the articles in the links I provided make mention of patients reporting "feeling mentally out of control" or "possessed" during these episodes...don't know if that may be related to what you describe as hallucinations or not.

Wow, vomiting on a monthly basis for up to 10 days in a row?  That is worse than a period.
My mind immediately went to menstrual cycle when I read the words "monthly".  But on the site you linked, boys have that as well.

You may want to see a neurologist and investigate if this could be migraine. Migraines can be the classic kind, or "atypical", meaning that someone's symptoms can be very different from the classic. Many migraine sufferers find that monthly hormone changes trigger an attack. You may also want to rule out a mild form of seizure disorder, which can cause physical symptoms as well as hallucination or obsessive thoughts. Someone who is prone to seizures may also find hormonal fluctuations to trigger episodes.

well, hormonally speaking, a lot of what she experiences is something this slave experiences sometimes for weeks on end, (controlling the nausea through medication) and with the added bonus of swollen, painful, dense breasts and swinging moods---same exact symptoms as pregnancy, without the baby.  there have been several occasions, throughout this slave's life where she would have to go to the hospital and get a shot to stop the cycle of vomiting, because it went on for longer than 24 straight hours...as a teen and even during pregnancy.

they don't have anything down at the doctor's office save for surgically removing the last ovary and calling it a day, so this slave has to "manage the symptoms" and can name her perscriptions down at the doctor's office after many years and many doctor's input on her symptoms from the onslaught of an overproduction of hormones.

it was really a nightmare when it was all intact and producing enough hormones for a small army of pregnant women every month.  debilitating migraines arrived by 3:30 p.m. 4 days out of 7.  by the age of 19, cervical cells were starting to turn pre-cancerous, both ovaries were producing multiple cysts with a coating of endometriosis.

the 9 day bloodbath was only extended and symptoms worsened when synthetic hormones were introduced.  guess the ones they flooded this slave with in utero(the equivalent of 55, 666 birth control pills) did enough damage, eh?

only trust your doctor as far as you can safely throw him/her.

mistoferin, thank you VERY much for those links.  i identified quite strongly with how CVS was described in those pages.  When i was younger and this was first starting it would last for 2-3 days, i'd need to be taken to the ER cause i'd dehydrate and etc, they'd put me on an I.V and give me a shot of something that i LOVED, made me stop throwing up...but i cant rememeber the name to save my life now lol.  As i got older it got less, down to the 24 hours, with sometimes 'free' months between vomiting, where i only felt a little 'ugh'..but never started. The only thing i cant track would be a trigger, other then maybe ovulating..

Thank you all for your suggestions and help, i think now i'll be able to take a game plan with me when i visit the doctor and hopefully get underway to getting this under control!! YAY!

Wow, a fascinating case study (the CVS). My own thoughts led to things such as a food allergy of some kind (e.g. milk proteins, or additives), or hormonally triggered migraines where the "victim" suffers various aura, without actually getting much, if anything, of a headache. The keeping of a very detailed diary (as previously suggested) might be the only way to correlate symptoms to stimuli.

To the OP - good luck my dear. I don't envy you, and I sincerely hope something is found to ameliorate your symptoms. Be prepared to have your 15 minutes of fame when you are written up and published (anonymously, of course) as another case study.

I'd have my doctor check my sinus and inner ears as well as digestive and hormonal things.
It may well be a food allergy or something too.
Be very careful to see what you expose yourself to around those times.
Good luck,
suzanne

I'm not a doctor but I was having similar attacks and problems.  This happened mostly when I left home and got to the gate to open it and at times it brought me down to my knees along with dry heaves or tossing my cookies.  My doctor informed me I had Diverticulosis.  DIET and fiber is the key if this would happen to be your ailment.  Google Diverticulosis and I hope this might help you.  It can get very serious if nothing is done to correct it.

Diverticulosis is a condition where pockets (pouches) form in the large intestine (colon).
Symptoms
Most people with diverticulosis have few or no symptoms. Doctors refer to diverticulosis with no symptoms as asymptomatic diverticulosis. For people who experience symptoms, the condition is called symptomatic diverticulosis. Symptomatic diverticulosis is categorized into three types - painful diverticulosis, inflammatory diverticulitis (inflamed and infected diverticula) and bleeding diverticulosis (the blood vessel in the wall of the diverticulum ruptures). Symptoms of painful diverticulosis are:
  • abdominal pain (usually located in the lower left abdomen) that subsides after a bowel movement or passing gas
  • constipation, followed by bouts of diarrhea
  • bloating

Symptoms of inflammatory diverticulitis are:
  • abdominal pain
  • constipation
  • fever
  • bloating
  • vomiting

Symptoms of bleeding diverticulosis are:
  • sudden, mild cramps
  • urge to have a bowel movement
  • bright red blood clots and maroon-colored stool
