I don't know if I've ever said this, but I didn't even know who Ron Paul was the first time you mentioned him on this forum ... oh, I technically knew who he was, but I know next to nothing about him, other than he was in Congress and once ran for President. I think everyone can read his bio for themselves, so I will instead tell a few things about him that may not be so obvious. He is an amazing and highly sought after public speaker. The only other speaker I have ever seen, who was better at Q&A. was former President Clinton. I have been told, by someone that I would imagine knows these sorts of thing, that he donates his entire fee for speaking, to the United Way, and that this is something you can Google for the rest of your life and never confirm. He is very popular with the college set, of both political persuasions. I worked on his phone bank and consider myself a Democrat. The people that volunteered to work for him ran a very wide spectrum. I've never worked for another candidate, so this may be normal, but we had everything from businessmen with Rolexs, to people wearing tie-dye. While we are on the phone bank topic, I have a short story to tell. One evening, in walks Ron Paul. This is the only time I have actually met him, other than seeing him speak two other times. So, he walks in, and asks for some help from some of the guys. They all come back a few minutes later and have ten of those Starbucks pitchers, box after box of Krispy Kreams, bags of fresh fruit, party trays, and juice. Big deal ... right? Well, here is the thing ... he didn't send some staffer to get the stuff, or pay to have it delivered, or just give money to the volunteers to score the stuff ... he went and got it himself, and he must have made about four stops to do it. So, I'm watching and thinking ... dude ... U.S. Congressman, driving around town, scoring donuts and coffee ... oh, and just in case some are thinking healthy thoughts, lets stop at the grocery store and score some fruit and juice ... and you know, you never know when someone is going to need a sandwich. So, anyway, he hangs out for the rest of the evening just being friendly. He insists that everyone calls him Ron. He sent me a hand written Christmas card. There are a lot of things I don't agree with him on. He is really in to the notion that the Constitution, as originally written, is an almost perfect document. I'm a little less sure on that. There are also a wealth of particular issues where we aren't on the same side ... big shocker, I'm a Democrat. But ... if you want the best man in the land to be President of the United States, vote for Ron Paul.
