ORIGINAL: pinksugarsub i didn't realise that getting a tattoo would hurt "like a cigarette burn" or that it wouldn't look the same in a few years' time. TY for telling me; i'm no longer interested in a tattoo. If i can afford it i may get my ears double pierced; and i think i want the 2nd piercings at the tips (tops) of my ears, just to be a lil different. This does require some thought, as it has been my experience that ear piercings do not close if you just take out the earrings. TY for all the great advice. I'm not too sure about "hurts like a cigarette burn", though getting tattooed certainly does involve some pain. This can vary depending upon the area of the body, one's pain tolerance, and one's personal padding. When I had my upper arms done, only my ass hurt...from sitting still for a couple of hours at a time. The work on my back, especially the lower back, was more painful...but not unbearable. As for the whole "blank canvas" waiting for the "One" thing...it is entirely possible, for any number of reasons, that a person may never meet that person. If there is a tattoo that would have significant personal meaning for you, I'd say "go for it". I haven't for a minute regretted getting mine. They mean something to me and always will; I could not imagine, as a single uncommitted person, waiting for permission from someone who might not even exist. However, if you are just considering a tattoo, have not been "grabbed" by something that speaks to you, and are just generally unsure...DON'T do it! One has to be totally sure about getting any tattoo. And yes...tattoos will change over time. As the body's skin ages and loses its elasticity or gets wrinkles, tattoos will follow. The vibrancy of colours can also fade in time, especially if exposed to a lot of sunlight. Colours can be touched up, if one feels the need. Tasha
