Thanks for your concern Rich, but little ankle-nipping dogs are more ferocious, and their bark is a lot worse too. A flip of the foot, and there they go - and it's really entertaining

Leather1 -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 6:35:38 PM)

This country has enough oil in Alaska and off the coasts to make us independent of OPEC. Who has stopped us from gaining this  independence? Liberals. Who blocks every attempt at building a new refinery? Liberals. Who stopped the state of Utah from mining one of only two sources of clean burning coal in the world? Liberals. Who blocks the construction of power generating dams and Nuclear power plants? Liberals. Who blocked the construction of a large wind farm off the Mass. coast? Liberals.
If any of you reading this have a problem with high gas and other energy prices and you have a history of voting for liberals then look in the mirror at the cause of the problem. I hope gas goes to 10.00 a gallon. I can afford it but I want  you liberals on a budget to suffer. I feel your pain!

And the best part about it is? It pisses Liberals off to no end to hear me talk about it...

I dont actually care one way or the other.

I just think it is funny that you go to a job and pay taxes so you can support WalmartFare, and are unable to see the low prices in perspective.

It is not that funny, to be honest.

Enjoy your Walmart shopping experience.

Hey Sinergy -

I drive there in an SUV, with the A/C on.

Do you do this in the summer time also?

The new job has cut my commute from 88 miles round trip to 8.  The savings has been so dramatic that I don't even think about the gas to come home for lunch a couple days a week.  That will probably change if the prices really start to spike after Memorial Day.

Damn, Rich, that's quite a difference. I'm lucky, I live maybe 4 or 5 miles from my job, but I do wish I had a ride that got better mpg.

Gas is teetering at the upper $2.90s here right now; speaking of Wally World, which usually has the cheapest gas, they went to $3.03 this morning.

Weird, all that liberal research money that was cut off when Republicans took control of the White House and congress.  All those laws overturned by the Republican congress mandating energy efficiency.  All those laws demanding smaller cars, better fuel efficiency, etc., shot down by lawsuits from the auto industry and gas companies, supported by the Republicans.  Energy efficient refineries.  Government regulations for the energy industry forcing them to build on their infrastructure and keep prices low, overturned by Republicans which gave us Enron and nationwide blackouts a few years ago.

I could go on, but your overuse of the word "liberal" and seeming lack of historical knowledge about energy issues and who did what make me more interested in watching Dead Man's Chest.

One can lead a person to knowledge but one cannot make another think.

Enjoy your liberal bashing evening.

Exactly.  Why I pointed out that I piss people off professionally.

Assuming he does succeed in not letting me piss him off, I suspect Sanity will fail with step 2.

Step 2 is actually being educated and informed enough about the subject matter to be able to argue the opposing side convincingly enough that they think you are one of them.

Then when one has slithered evilly into the belly of the beast, one is in position to administer the death blow.

Sinergy

p.s.  Of course, half the problem there is that one runs the risk of becoming what one is fighting.

Sinergy,
Why do you start personal attacks?  He said liberals then you chose to internalize it and make it about you. We all can have different opinions and agree to disagree but not on a personal level.

Please you have more intelligence than that.

Level i also find the cheapest gas typically at Sam's.  They also don't jack up the prices during certain parts of the week and lower them on others which i find irritating.

I did not actually start a personal attack.

I was replying to a thread that was attacking a group I tend to identify with.

That is the problem with making generalized statements, when they include a large group of people who, by virtue of their membership in the group, all those people in the group are personally attacked by the statement.

I find it curious that you attack me for a personal attack, made in response to personal attacks by other posters.

Whatever floats your boat, I suppose.

That's one of the Catch-22's.  I don't need as much vehicle as I drive 90% of the time.  I'd love to get a tiny little Kia or something for basic errands and the work commute and only drive the wagon when I'm hauling stuff or people.  Insurance companies (at least that I have found) won't cut you a break on that occasional vehicle though and the premiums would disolve any savings on fuel.

There are so many things we could do better.

welshwmn3 -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 7:16:47 PM)

As much as I could, I cut back a year and a half ago when Katrina hit.  In North Carolina (where I lived at the time), gas prices hit $3.25 and more (and that wasn't as bad as some areas had it).  Unfortunately, Sir and I lived in the country and had a 30-50 mile one way trip anywhere (friends, malls, work).

Now we live in an urban area, and driving 10 miles someplace is a long distance (compaired to 45 miles just for Sir to go to work -- not home, just TO work).

There's not much more we can cut back.  We went from 3 tanks of gas a week (in an escort) to 1 tank of gas every week and a half.

If gas prices get to $10 per gallon, we might not be going anywhere, except for Sir to go 5 miles to work every day.

Before we go to Alaska, why not open up the oil feilds in Oklahoma that George H. Bush (the first one) closed in the early 90's right after the first gulf war?  It makes more sense.  The equipment is there.  Yes, it needs to be updated, but that's going to take less time to do than building a whole new system in the Alaska wilderness.

And according to a CBS article dated June 29, 2003 (link: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2003/06/26/sunday/main560595.shtml), it seems the opposition to the wind mill farm was the residents of Cape Cod, because, well, the windmills would be VISIBLE at all times.

I'm sorry, what kind of cheese do the people with enough money to pay $10 per gallon to fill up their Hummers serve with that high priced whine?

Nice to see you come into new to the forums flaming.  There are both liberals and conservatives here.  No need to denigrate on that front.  Debate the issue with an actual stance about why you feel the way you do.  Denigrating by generalities don't cut it.

Dtesmoac -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 9:26:07 PM)

I start a 2300 mile round trip tomorrow $3 is still way cheaper than the UKs $8+.

The fall in value of $ is going to have a continued adverse effect on gas prices, this has been cl;ear for the last 3 to 5 years, why be shocked now.

imthatacheyouhav -> RE: Gas prices (5/19/2007 9:32:21 PM)

I can't believe there isnt more outrage about this rediculous increase in gas prices. Its criminal!
