I agree, that if anyone ever tried to think of me of cattle, I'd moo all over his ass and he'd be finding cow patties in his bed.

BUT, for everyone who has a desire, there's someone out there with the complimenting desire, it's all good for them and I wish them a happily ever after.

Moo.

Although I would appreciate the affection behind trying to use a cutesy name on me, the actual cutesy name would make me want to puke. So you'd get away with using it once, and then I'd suggest in not so subtle terms that you find something else that is far less cute.

 ~Fast Reply~

I dunno about others, but I have plenty of "pet" names for Valyraen and I think he has twice as many for me! I guess we are just goofy that way. [:)]

LuckyAlbatross -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/20/2007 5:42:33 PM)

I love it.  I know one slave whose master required her to call him Mastermuffin.  Names are a way of showing intimacy.

It depends on what you prefer.  Many slaves get freaked if they even have to use their owners legal name.

If I was close to someone and we had reached that level of intimacy, I would truly delight in having a sweet name we created together.  My sense of self does not hinge on being perceived as "non domly" due to a name.

I have a very teasing nature.Sometimes when playful I tend to call people cutesy names as a way of showing affection. With that being said, what say you Dominants? Would you find in disrespectful to say being called... umm..Pookie Butt? or Kissy Pot Pie?Or would you accept it in the manner for which it was delivered? Would you laugh with delight? Or be offended and punish?...Tempting

It would depend on whether the dominant has a sense of humour or not

Also the kind of dynamic that exists in the relationship.

Whilst My girl will make up 'silly names' during banter, she will not refer to Me by a 'pet' name outside of that context. she got pulled up recently for mistakingly reffering to Me as 'hun' in an email and has not repeated the error.

Language can and is used as a tool, for specific perpouses by many in the lifestyle.

I am the one who has the control, enforces bounderys and rules, the arbiter, decision maker.... much of what I DO has a formal edge to it..... My form of addressing her tends to be affectionate 'pet' names, reinforcing the affection because the actions reinforce the formal.

she  is the one complying with those rules, trying to give what is required, many of her actions show that affection quite readily. The formality and respect is what gets reinforced by restricting her terms of addressing Me away from those affectionate 'pet' names (I am not her pet, she is MINE!) and to "Master"

Banter however doesn't conform to those rules, that is where she (And I) just let rip with our sense of humour. she knows where the boundry is both in terms of how far she can go (If she goes to far it doesn't take more than a 'look' to have her rein back) and when it is/isn't appropriate. Still no 'pet' names, but she definatly gives as much as she gets with the teasing [:D]

catize -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/20/2007 6:44:04 PM)

I’m not one for ‘cutsey’,  but I have been known to say something like, “Would you please act all domly and shit by opening this jar for me?”  Sometimes I get a swat but I always get a smile.

Celeste43 -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/20/2007 7:36:14 PM)

I can't imagine calling him pookie butt. I do call him rat occasionally and that always gets a laugh. Oddly enough one time I called him a louse instead and he was offended. I don't see much difference there except that a louse is a small creature that bites and he's definitely not small but he does bite.

junecleaver -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/20/2007 7:55:04 PM)

I use nicknames with him all the time.  They aren't really 'cutesy' nicknames.  I don't know why, but we bond over calling each other mean names as well as the standard baby, love, etc etc.  Today I called him Sir Unibrow because he wouldn't let me pluck his eyebrows.  (What's up with that?)  I have been told by his lifestyle friends that he has an alter-ego named 'Master Fluffles.'  Sometimes I'll call him Sir Fluffles.

But I definitely know when to tease and when to shut up.

MissOchistic -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 12:23:38 AM)

Well, you have to take the level of gushiness into account.

For instance, Pookie or honeybear are not too bad...even a snoogums could slip by.

But Kissy Pot Pie? Instant death.

i have a funny story about this.  Living down south, i picked up the habit of calling P/pl "dear" or "sweetie" or some other such endearment, rather than their given name.  My superior called me in one day to tell me one of the secretaries had complained she was being sexually harrassed by this habit of mine.  Sexually harrassed?  Holy cow......the death knell of a career in government.  My superior put nothing in writing (as i think she just wanted to pig roast me) and i tried hard to break the habit.  Funny thing is, it was almost as hard to break as my cursing habit.  Go figure.

BTW, i wouldn't call any Dom a cutesy name unless i knew He'd accept it laughingly.  i have called Dom Friends "Teddy Bear" and "Bear" but not much else.

Valyraen -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 7:21:01 AM)

Not only don't I mind being called cutesy names, I encourage it. I've probably made up more names for myself than anyone else has... since another of my 'net handles is Boo (long story, which I'll be happy to explain in PMs if yer that curious), I've adopted the names Master Boo (when I'm feeling, as Aqua put it, all "Domly McDomzors") or the more frequently used Boosir. Then again, Aqua and I are given to babbling at one another in a language that's all our own, so I suppose it's all a matter of perspective.

LOL, this thread is corrupting me.  I wanna do this with my Master now LOL.  I can NEVER open jars on my own, soooo weak!

My Master is very laid back and fun loving.  I dont really call him silly nick names though, mostly sweetie, hon, ohmygod...[;)]

sambamanslilgirl -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 7:54:40 AM)

i know you're looking for responses from Masters however i would like to answer your query.

i would call Daddy goofy nicknames however i haven't found that would fit His fatherly personality. the same goes for my secondary Dom too. i  like to nicknames such as "sexy", "honey", "dear" or "my love" to affectionately call them but goofy ones probably would get me a stern or confused look from them.

daddysprop247 -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 8:28:14 AM)

omg...i can just picture what would happen if i called Daddy "pookiebutt" or some such!! think i would finally need to get the hearing aid fitted after that one, lol. our union is a very loving one, however he is always Master, always Father, and therefore it is inappropriate for me to call him anything which would imply that we are equals. this is why i am not permitted to ever call him by his first name. so "snugglemuffin" would definitely be out of the question.

~big grin~ Mastermuffin. How good!

Count me in the ranks of freaking about Master's legal name. Holy cow. I've never used it, don't want to use it, can't imagine having to use it. I refer to him as "King", "M", "Master", "Rock Star", and his personal favorite, "Rock Messiah" (or just plain ol' "Messiah"). He calls me all sorts of names as well, all of them pleasant to my ears.

Tonight though, he's in for a surprise. I'm going to try out "Mastermuffin" and see what it earns me.

Wildfleurs -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 10:39:52 AM)

I dunno about goofy names, but sometimes I refer to him as my dom bear or my guard dom (because so many times he does resemble both of those things) but those are two terms that I'll usually use in a moment of gushy appreciation towards him, not really in a goofy/funny moment.

C~

Edited to add: I don't feel comfortable using my owners name, but there are specific instances I'll use it (like in front of my family if I absolutely need to get his attention and can't find another way) or also referring to him to someone else I'll say, "my owner (his first name)" so they know who I'm referring to as my owner.

jauntyone -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 11:33:24 AM)

Greetings

as already mentioned here, I am allowed to call him only two names; Master or Sir. I mistakingly, once, called him by his first name; a mistake that I will never repeat [:(]

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but I think the bigger issue here is WHY someone would choose to be owned by a Master OR a Mistress that considers them to be "cattle." That is what is absolutely DISRESPECFTUL in my opinion and I wonder how a sub or slave could even have respect for a Master like that in the first place. I certainly wouldn't. In my opinion, a slave IS to be "cherished, adored or whatever you want to call it." If you have that sort of closeness with them, why not have some sort of "pet names" for each other. Then again, that is up to the two individuals involved.

Furthermore, I also think that the poster KNEW he was going to get some responses like this when he posted it. He probably wanted to "create a stir."

Be well,
M. Diva

Greetings gothicdiva

there is nothing disrespectful about Master referring to me as property, cattle, an animal...anything he wishes. I am his property, he may call me anything he wishes [:)] What many fail to understand is that even while he is referring to me as such, it does not diminish his love for me or mine for him. It is a statement of ownership; nothing more and nothing less.

I wish you well

melissa

Louse (lice) is a parasite.  As someone who's kept domesticated rats in the past I can say they're sweet natured creatures.

I don't know that I would like a cute name becuase I'm not a fan of them in the first place.  Nor would I necessarily have a cute name for my sub unless she was being punished for something.  Using specialized names to alter her status makes for a fun idea.

Trampler -> RE: Goofy names, Respectful? Disrespectful? (5/21/2007 5:03:35 PM)

As long as it is meant respectfully, or in a generally silly mood, I wouldn't care, or I would get just as silly. Although a friend who is on this site, accidently called me Tramp, she said she didn't think it out, she just wanted to shorten my nicname. (luckily we were at a munch, so nobody blinked an eye.)
