ORIGINAL: eyesopened When my offspring started using curse words i sat them down and gave them a senario to think about when speaking with people outside their peer group. Imagine you are making funeral arrangements for your mother or close relative and the funeral director says: "I'm so f***in sorry for your loss. To make s*** easier for the family we offer some f***ing affordable funeral packages that will allow you to send the bitch out in style without breaking the g**damn bank." Would you really want to do business with this person? Then just don't BE that person. I just love that example! What a great way to make the point. To the OP: I work in the medical profession, and sometimes stress and situations can irritate the heck out of me. I just subsituted words that I did not mind using.... like, "oh, shinola", "well, fudge!" or if it was really bad, "Oh, fudgepuppies!"; And if I felt a "stream of consciousness" swear session coming on, I'd take the first word and turn it into a song that I'd sing under my breath until I got myself under control. For instance. "GOD...bless America, land that I love, stand beside her, and guide her......" etc; There were probably some doctors who thought I enjoyed working alongside them because I hummed under my breath the whole time. I found that humming a song does the same purpose as the counting to 10 thing for keeping my temper under control, with the added benefit that the silliness of the situation made me smile.
