I think we want to create a world where there are not a significant number have-nots lest the have-nots try to have what the haves have :) This is usually by force. If one looks at various community strifes or people that come from "war-torn" countries, we see that it's usually those that have nothing to lose that cause all the crap. On a side note about immigration, it is rather ironic that some "immigrants" have contributed greatly to our enjoyment of the internet, the arts, or our understanding of the scientific world.... Examples: Zubin Mehta (NYPO), Norah Jones, Sabeer Bhatia (Hotmail), Dr. Sanjay Gupta (CNN), Deepak Chopra (self-help), Pradeep Sidhu (co-founder of Juniper Networks), Vinod Khosla (co-founder Sun Microsystems), Tony Kanal (No Doubt), Kim Thayil (Soundgarden), Amar Bose (Bose Corporation), Har Gobind Khorana (Nobel Prize - medicine), Amartya Sen (Nobel Prize - economics), Subramanyan Chandrasekhar (Nobel Prize - physics), Narinder Kapany ("father of fiber optics"), Steven Chu (Nobel Prize - physics), Jen-Hsun Huang (co-founder Nvidia), Daniel Chee Tsui (Nobel Prize - physics), Jerry Yang (co-founder Yahoo), Victor and Janie Tsao (founders of Linksys), Michael Chang (French Open), Michelle Kwan (Olympics), Amy Chow (Olympics), Kristi Yamaguchi (Olympics), Yao Ming (Basketball), Mikhail Baryshnikov (ballet), Henry A. Kissinger (Politics), Severo Ochoa (Nobel Prize - medicine), Jerry Garcia (Grateful Dead), Oscar De la Hoya (boxing), Mario Molina (Nobel Prize - chemistry), Carlos Santana....
