Lordandmaster -> RE: Same-sex marriage (6/9/2005 10:01:18 PM)

The only person who's talking about anything other than same-sex marriages is YOU, ant.

knees2you -> RE: Same-sex marriage (6/9/2005 10:17:34 PM)

Now, now... you have really have been posting what your version of Christianity says. Lots of Christians disagree with your interpretation.

knees2you -> RE: Same-sex marriage (6/9/2005 10:38:34 PM)

Onceburned.

The Bible just states it is wrong~
Since I Believe that, then it

Doesn't get much Clearer then that~

Every True "Christian Who believes in the Bible already knows that..."

Thanks, Ant

This often happens with older people. They get closer to death, and fear of death makes them suddenly believe in God. It's not an unknown phenomenon, and it's the same thing that happened to the professor you are talking about it.

No no no.

He sort of accurately quoted a sentence from a Richard Dawkins book (the professor) but he managed to leave out some significant punctuation, and in a an act of desperate intellectual dishonesty (to paraphrase my favorite footnote...Akasha will understand!) managed to leave out the answer that Dawkins gives in the next sentence that completely and utterly contradicts what our lovely evangelist is trying to say.

The Bible also says that it is okay for you to sell your daughters into slavery. You don't believe that too, do you?

Dark Angel,
That is old Testiment!

I thought maybe You would come up with something like
that from the Bible.

That is Why God Told Noah to build an Ark.
He was tired of people doing the things that He
Despised.

Look at What King David went through~
Yes He was Blessed, but He also Suffered dearly
for the Sins he caused and did.
He had many Wives and Cheated, but suffered alot!

Thanks, Ant

Not everyone believes every word written in the bible.... I sure don't

I don't think other people's relationships are anybody's business but their own.

You love someone?? Great!! You want to get married??? Great!!!!

You like to beat someone with a stick???? Great!! They like it???? Great!!!!!

Live and let live

THE BIBLE SAYS IT.

I am not a Chrisitan. I don't follow the bible. The christian god has no more claim to my worship than does my god.

So, I undersatnd comletely. Ant's version of chrisitianity says homosexual marriage is wrong for religious reasons. Though, by his reasoning re-marrying after a divorce is also wrong for religious reasons.

So, his opinion? It is wrong.

Does this have any bearing on -social- non-religious law? No.

Note: The verses that individuals use t condem homosexuality are largely from the old testament. Please advise.

Is it just me, or do alot of people not understand irony?

To be quite honest ant, I use the bible, I don't abuse it.

And as much as you think I may do or say, the reality is you do not know me, and it isn't your place to try to put words into my mouth that could never reside there.

There isn't anything gained by being nasty or critical using ones faith or (on the other side) non belief as justification.

You are quite entitled to speak of your faith and in what you believe. Equally, others are able to voice their opinions and what they believe in. What is right for you, is not right for them and visa versa.

Religion is abused by governments. It shouldn't be misused.
Like guns, religion doesn't kill, people do.
Abuse them at your own risk - and if you abuse them at the price of someone else, then be prepared to accept the consequence.

The OP is about personal opinions on same sex marriage. If its against your belief system, then say so, and move on. People are responsibile for themselves. If a gay couple desire a union in which they wish to be married under the eyes of God - ANY GOD/s - whatever their belief - thats between them and their God/s. You might not understand them, just as you won't get people to understand your point always - but you can accept their choice, their freedom to be - just like you would want to be accepted and be allowed to practise that which you believe.

Peace and Love

I think it's funny how self proclaimed 'tolerant' people suddenly become intolerant when someone mentions the Bible.

Perhaps because us self-proclaimed tolerant people don't like being proselytized at.

Thank you DA, that is precisely the point. Hijacking the thread to have a discussion on the validity or lack-there-of a book that was pieced together from the writings by various authors has no bearing what so ever on this discussion. Yes, opinions would be appreciated by all..but base them on facts, not beliefs. I'm not going to get into a theological discussion here..because this is not the place. You want to do that..start your own thread, some of us would like to hear clear cut and honest thoughts on the subject at hand. It is about Same Sex Marraige. Contary to what seems to be popular opinion....marraige and religion have nothing to do with each other...it is a contract between 2 or more human beings...it does not require some ordained anything to bless, approve or in any way shape or form be involved. If your belief system sways your opinion and makes you think it's OK to discriminate, to cheat others out of their rights...fine...but personally I think you need to take a step back and think about that. Now let's get back to the aim of the OP.

suberic101 -> RE: Same-sex marriage (6/11/2005 8:25:50 AM)

But no body is proslytizing, a person knowingly posted a subject that they had to know someone was going to quote the Bible on. I don't quote the Bible in debates, but i am honest when asked if that is where my convictions come from...

Really, I think the issue takes away from very important issues, like racism which is a huge problem, and woman hating...

perverseangelic -> RE: Same-sex marriage (6/11/2005 10:15:45 AM)

I'm not intollerant of people quoting the bible. I'm intollerant of people assuming that everyone believes in teh bible and that the bible is the last word. Many that I speak to seem to think that once they quote the bible it's all over, because the bible is the receptacle of all truth and knowledge. Honestly, I am intollerant of that viewpoint. I accept that it's fine for someone who is not me. I do -not- accept the need to behave as though -everyone- believes it's where their possitions stem from.

So...believe in the bible. Wonderful! Base your life on your perceptions of it's rules! Even debate from that possition, using the bible as backup. HOWEVER, acknowledge that that is -not- the holy book for thousands of millions of people and that it being your holy book doesn't make it anyone else's holy book.
