In thinking of how we use our different senses, the sense of smell like others can have quite an effect on mood, arousal, even triggers. Different smells can bring forth different memories also. For example, I like the smell of Lilly of the valley on a woman, though it brings up strong memories of my mother. So not one that I would want to smell during certain times. My wife has an adverse effect if I wear a scent with tobacco in it as some are produced with it. Triggers bad memories for her. Amber oils, Myrr, ect.. raise a feeling of a nomadic slave and master setting to me. Certainly for some the smell of leather in the air.You get the idea, I would appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Absolutely, the sense of smell is quite powerful, and too often overlooked. I recently saw a great presentation on sensory deprivation that notably discussed scents. Good thread! What did you have in mind when looking for replies?

I figured I would leave it pretty open ended, and see how people incorporate them to create atmosphere, use them during different times. I know soothing scents can have quite and effect during aftercare, when calming is desired ,ect.. But mostly which scents do you prefer, and why.

One of my favorite things to do when Daddy isn't home is to wrap myself up in one of the shirts that He's already worn. It's got His cologne on it, and it just has Him on it...it's a very powerful and comforting feeling.

Just brewed coffee is also one of my favorite smells, along with baking bread, and some other kitchen smells. They remind me of home and childhood. Oh, and the smell of a used book...I love used bookstores.

There are other smells, as well, the leather floggers have a certain scent, as do the plastic type paddles...but my favorite kink smell is rubber...it's just too bad I don't like the feel of it on my skin.

Lavender oil always reminds me of my nan and camomile always reminds me of my son as a baby because he was weaned onto camomile tea.
I have been vegetarian for 17 years but the smell of cooked bacon still reminds me that I once liked meat!
I can’t say that there is any particular smell that reminds me of anything bad (apart from cat pee obviously)
I have done some sensory play using different scents under the nose of a blindfolded person and that can be fun, especially if you tell them beforehand that sometimes when a sub starts to space they pick up certain scents!

I have a friend I see very seldom...so when I do, I steal his shirt.  I love that.  It just smells of him and he's one of those guys who smell good to me....don't know if it is cologne or soap...doesn't matter.

As for other smells...my head is really funny and most "girly scents" give me really bad headaches as does cigarette, cigar and pipe smoke.  I am very careful.  I have to smell candles, lotions, etc. before I buy them and I caution those who are near and dear to me not to purchase scents for me...especially perfumes...I simply can not wear most of them.

I seldom come across a man  who's wearing a scent that bothers me (it seems to be more florals that cause issue) so when I can drink in the scent a man wears that's bliss.   Drakkar Noir has always been a favorite.

We are incense junkies here, but again...I have to buy them because I have to smell them first.

Now moving on to play...I do burn incense a lot but also enjoy using scents for sensory play.  For example a bit of vanilla or peppermint scent can change the effect of play for a bottom who's half way to sub space already.  Fun fun.

Maybe I'm weird, but one of my FAVORITE scents is tobacco smoke in leather.  It always makes me feel soft and feminine because it's such a masculine scent to me.  Just thinking of it makes me want to melt.

For myself, I love Bath and Body Works Moonlit Path that has scents of lavender and roses, I believe it is light and feminine.  Cacherel is also an excellent cologne for work and I try to spray it on very lightly so I won't offend any clients or my boss (I am the only secretary working in the office other than another who comes in sporadically.

My ex husband used to wear Jovan Musk; however, I don't think I really want to be reminded of him and my father used to wear Calvin Klein's Eternity, which is a wonder, crisp, clear scent that drives me crazy.

mmm...scent.... tobacco and leather together, the old english leather cologne, drakkar noir... i wear (occasionally) a musk/patchouli blend with a touch of vanilla that drives most men into asking "what IS that?  it smells good!"  mostly i go with girly scents because they smell nice on me.  sandalwood incense, baby powder, lavender if tis more a good hard floral scent and not cloyingly artificial..english over french lavenders.

i dont tend to appreciate those who chose to douse themselves liberally in scent.  i figure if you get a hint of scent when someone passes you, good.....if you can *taste* it....whhooo-boyyyy you way over did it!

and there are a few that will send me into an absolute panic attack because of bad memory..old spice cologne being the main one.

kitten, who needs to find a good-scented fabric softener for the bed linens

i think common sense is very important as we journey on our paths in life.

Excuse me?

What?

It's about what?

Ohhhhh........nevermind.

One of my favorite scents is the smell of vanilla.  It reminds me of baking and gives such a feeling of comfort and peace.  Most all of my lotions are scented vanilla and he loves how it smells on me.

Leather is another favorite smell.  It is hard for me to walk by and smell leather and not touch.  It is very sensual and erotic for me.

The best smell is sex.  I love how a room will smell like sex after hours of fucking.  I love having his smell on me...

I buy that knock off perfume...the ones that smell like the expensive brands but only cost a few bucks and scent the sheets with that.  I also scent my bath water.  Smell wonderful and doesn't cost that much.

Scents and aromas have so much affect on me.   I love the floral scents like lavendar, jasmine, roses, gardenias and tea olive.   I also love the smell of freshly baked bread....vanilla...apple cinnamon. The floral sents tend to fill me with peace and tranquillity whereas the "baking" scents  give me that cozy homey nesting feeling.

Man scent and sex scent take me to a whole  other place...one that i love.

My mother is forever fretting because i don't wear enough make up/perfume...etc...i prefer a clean natural smelling body , on men and women, to one adorned with perfumes and cologne.

Your not alone.... I find sweaty men a HUGE turn on.  Problem is most I've met insist on showing before I can touch them.  It's totally frustrating!

Next to that I would have to pick Hay, especially now that we are in our first cutting.

The smell of the damp dirt when someone's plowing a field is great.  Then again I can tell the ~kind~ of manure when I pass a field that there spreading.

I'm really big on smell.  It is usually the first thing I notice, every where.

I love the smell of Fall.  And Spring.  It's something i'm very 'aware' of and it always takes me back to being young and carefree.  I'm usually flooded w/ memories on that first day of Autumn when the air is crisp and cool.  mmmmm

I'm with Kyra - love the smell of 'old sex.'

Strangest smell that really has an arousing effect on me - the smell of beer on a mans breath.  Pre Master (He doesn't drink) this was a huge turn on for me.

I'm glad to read how women love the scent on a man's shirt...I've had several women over the years ask me for/borrow/steal my shirt

But for me, I love the natural aroma of a woman; especially mixed with the aroma of leather...
So when she peels off a pair of long leather boots...slips out of silk panties moist with her wet cunt juices... Fuck that's hawt!

I love the smell of fresh brewed coffee. I also enjoy the smell of cinnamon and vanilla. I love the smell outdoors after a good rain and the sun comes out. My favorite woman’s perfume has a very sweet candy smell to it. I cannot remember its name. I love to wear Old Spice cologne.
