Termyn8or -> RE: What are your passions? (5/28/2007 4:05:47 AM)

I agree with most, music. And I mean playing it as well as listening. I never play copies, always all original, period.

I didn't have any fiction books around, so I wrote one.

And if you want to know of my strongest passion, read the "Playing shrink" thread. I think I helped two people, and I truly hope I did, and I am fairly sure I was the only one who could do it. Not only did I use my superior mind, I also used personal knowledge, things they told me over the years. No pro could even have that knowledge. This was not easy, but I think it was worth it. Every minute. I would do it again, and if it is needed again I'll do it for them again.

You just don't know how bad it was, both of them are damn lucky they are not violent. Especially him. He could kill her in one punch. I haven't heard from them since, given the number of hours passed, that is good.

I think my main passion is helping people. I might be trying to make up for all the evil I did in the past, but I know that doesn't work. But now at least I can be satisfied with my actions now.

Yesterday, I was very likely the only person on Earth that could've done what I did. And it wasn't easy, it was a good three fuckin hours ! Teaching a guy math and electronics years ago so he could pass trade school and go on to make more money then me (MF) was easier. And more recently, with one phone call hooking two friends up with jobs actually better than mine, once they get out of the dark times. That is a whole nother story though.

Even in elementary school, tutoring the other kids in math, I did good, so I was told. Yesterday, kicking my friend in the chest, using only words, but at the right time, and seeing her reach her hand out to him, that is my passion.

Tell you what, I might as well mention it now, I have alot bigger project coming up. We sometimes call him Sasquatch. He has a couple of problems. Now this guy is considerably bigger and stronger than I, but he is not violent. He is huge and strong, and fast too, I used to spar with him a long time ago.

He seems to have a weakness for Women. Actually sex if I consider everything, he is like a dog. And he attracts them too, living in a slightly unsavory area, he gets all the local hookers for free, I guess they don't really have a pimp. I don't know how the guy does it, but each and every one of them would leave the life to be with him full time in a heartbeat. This is not him bragging, I have met some of them, and so has another friend of mine, loyal to me, who happens to live in the same area.

But the Women are interfereing with his work, and we can't have that. I got him that job so this is the next project. Alot of these Women do crack, and they bring it over. He can't turn it down. Hey, on a holiday weekend like this I might do some, but these broads show up at midnight on a Tuesday and shit, keep him up, in more ways than one, until like 6AM. It's obvious the guy can't say no.

And it is not that he is a crackhead, he hardly ever buys it, and left to his own devices might do it once a month. He makes good money and shou;ld be able to afford it, no problem, and as far as I am concerned, he is over 21.

We are not talking dealing with substance abuse here, I think we are talking substance abuse WHEN. When it is appropriate. Now realize these are working Women and he doesn't pay for shit. Some also clean his house and bring food, and I have no idea how he does it. He must be really good in bed.

And last but not least, he has one of the strongest personalities I have ever run across. This is going to be a challenge, but I got intelligence on my side. He thinks as fast as I do, and I cannot put physical duress on him, even for a short time.

I have to redirect his mental strength to , instead of hit the pipe or snort the line, say NO, it is Tuesday night and not only am I not doing it tonight, YOU are not doing it in my house, if you need to do it tonight, get out.

This is not going to be easy, but if he keeps missing work there won't be any work. These cunt do not realize what is at stake. He has the potential to make $100,000 this year after taxes. I can't let him fuck that up for this cunt. These cunt, there are about five of them. I am not kidding.

This is not going to even be lightyears within easy.

He can have crack anytime he wants, which might be about once a month. He needs to say no to the extra. NO. No is the most important word in the English language. I have used it, and actually used when offered coke or crack. I just said no, like the TV commercial said. He needs to learn that, but there is something deeper.

This guy has a learning disability, and nobody actually sees it but me. He has been homeless a number of times because of his antics, a point which will be used in his session. He didn't learn the fifth time. Get my drift ?

I am going on too much about this one case, the thread asks "What is your passion", well I think I have given my answer, in spades.

My passion is to use my special abilities to help my friends in ways that others can't. Perhaps it can be called fine tuning their heart and mind. I want all my friends to succeed in life, and even though it is not my direct responsibility, it seems to have befallen me.

Maybe it is not my passion, maybe I just fell into it.

At this point I have no idea, but I have to try. If I don't try I might as well die.

I can't stop, I am me, that is who I am. Do not ask me a question not wanting an answer, and do not pose me a problem without expecting a solution.

That is my passion.

Music.  It's always been a part of my life, and always will be.  If I ever go deaf, there will still be a song playing in my head 24/7.

Books.  I absolutely love reading; mainly sci-fi at the moment, but you can go so many places with books at any time, and any place.

Inline skates.  If anyone took away my speed skates, they'd take the fun out of fitness.  I love skating at night, navigating by moonlight.  I have no idea why, but it feels absolutely great.

Last but most certainly not least, machines.  I love machines, the more mechanical looking, purpose-built, and purely functional, the better.  Firearms are one type of machine that I enjoy.  If you've ever seen slow-motion videos of semi-automatic (or fully automatic) firearms being fired, it's so neat to watch the empty brass extracted, the new round stripped from the magazine and fed into the chamber.  The tolerances are very precise, and it all works exactly as it should (unless you buy crappy weapons or ammo).  Another type of machine with which I'm very, very involved is the automobile.  Or, more specifically, the ultimate driving machine.  This is why I originally became a mechanic, then entered a specific market and specialized in BMW racing/repair.  I'd seen pretty much everything else, and I wanted to work on the best.  The cars with the most thought put into them (and probably made by nuts like myself).

To sum up that last paragraph...when form is derived from the need for function, beauty is most often the result.

Could I give these things up, if need be?  Yes.  Although I doubt anyone would ever ask me to give up books, and for music, there's always headphones.  I already know I will become less involved in auto racing when I become involved in a relationship, and if she is worried about my being injured in a rollerblade mishap, I'll stop rollerblading.  I'll miss them both, but in every successful relationship is the art of compromise, and she comes first.

P.S.  My apologies if this ran on...I think my boredom is showing.

gothicdiva -> RE: What are your passions? (5/28/2007 4:48:46 AM)

I have alot of different passions. This list is certainly not "all-inclusive" and continues to evolve as I grow as a person.

Here are a few of them:

1. Living well and being the best person I can be/trying to maintain a positive attitude.
2. MUSIC...can't live without it!
3. A well-honed sense of humor. Without humor, life is just not worth living!
4. My love for my friends and family.
5. My dog as well as animals in general.
6. Beauty in all forms...human, nature, material....nothing like a sexy black patent boot! LOL
7. Intellectual stimulation...either through reading, studying or stimulating banter with others.
8. Travel and experiencng new adventures and cultures.
9. Meeting new people and making new friends.
10. Last, but certainly NOT least...CHOCOLATE! Need I say more?

Be well,
M. Diva

That also sums up my main passion outside of my wife and BDSM. i've loved cars since i was a little kid. One of the first things i did after setting out on my own was to buy a car 13 years my senior. i literally get chills looking at fine old coachbuilt automobiles. i spend hours in museums going over the fine details of classic cars, motorcycles, machine tools, etc.. i collect old pistols, and the first thing i do when i add something to my collection is take it apart, and examine how the designer of that particular piece addressed the various aspects of its function. i don't throw away anything mechanical or electrical without disassembling it, to determine as much of its functionality, and scavenge as many worthwhile components as i can. i tinker, experiment, modify, and occasionally try my hand at inventing. i love stuff that works.

BDSM and sexual interests aside, what are your passions and how much are they a part of your life?

I'm not really referring to every day type hobbies, although those chosen hobbies for some truly are a passion.

I suppose I'm hoping, through your responses, to be inspired in those things I feel passionate about but haven't done anything about.

Termyn8or, that was really cool. :)  I'd definately like to read the others sometime.  One of the reasons I love sci-fi so much is that every series I read offers a different view of the future.  They range from the idealistic, seemingly perfect societies, to the bleak, war-ravaged, futuristic dark ages such as those found in Warhammer 40,000.  The amazing thing about Warhammer 40K is that the gory nature of the battles are laid bare with such explicit detail, one can practically taste the grey matter.  The authors really do a great job of capturing the hectic, no-holds-barred, graphic nature of warfare in its purest form.

My favourite series, though, is Battletech, because the machines (especially the battlemechs) and the pilots' operating conditions in the cockpit are described in such amazing detail, you can truly picture the inner workings of these machines and how they could be affected by damage, the environment, etc., and what it would be like in the cockpit; it's not all glamour and glory.

PetDave, have you ever come out to the HSR (Historic Sportscar Racing) events?  If you enjoy seeing classic racecars, imagine seeing them do what they were designed to do all over again.  Let me tell you, it's absolutely amazing to see the classics out performing, rather than sitting in a museum like lawn ornaments.  HSR is the only series in which I actively take part these days, because it's just so rewarding.  There are also classes for different types of cars through the ages, including the Group C racers of the 80's like the Porsche 962 and Mazda 787B.  You should check it out sometime. :)

Music, martial arts and roleplaying games.

In no particular order.

My life would be seriously incomplete without any one of those.

darcyinshadows -> RE: What are your passions? (5/29/2007 9:24:29 AM)

I adore music, whether listening to it, playing it (I play bass, guitar and keys), producing it, remixing it, or DJing I can be moved by it, sometimes to tears through its' passion and emotion, and often to euphoria by its' power.

I adore reading and writing, and have written a couple of books (with a couple more in the pipeline) not with any thoughts of fame or fortune but just because I couldn't *not* write them. Same goes for a screenplay I wrote and the many poems that have spilled from the end of my ink pen over the last year or so.

I adore cinema and film, and can lose myself in a good movie (or occasionally a bad one ;) ) - there's nothing quite like sharing a favourite movie with a friend for the first time, and seeing the joy they get from discovering just what it is that works for me.

I adore photography, and can spend hours just viewing the world through my lens, capturing the beauty that is all around but which people too often take for granted, or are too busy to stop and notice. I love when someone sees my work and it holds them captivated for a second, a minute, or longer.

And finally, I adore .dark. - without her nothing else matters.

Woodworking - I am so bad I have certain planks of highly figured wood I will probably always keep as wood and never use as anything other than an example of nature's beauty.  I teach woodworking, I am getting ready to teach a class on building a small arts & crafts style bookcase and another on hand carving a gunstock.

Books- I love books, I know which cities have good bookstores, I have books in boxes I don't have shelves for, I have books in my car, my basement, and under my bed.  I have books simply because I want them, others because I want or feel I need to read them, others because they are important reference.

I love gardening and have to get off my ass and finish up the raised beds for my sweetheart.

Guns - I love guns, from the simplest single shot to the most advanced machineguns.  I love the mechanical aspects, the engineering, development, and history of them.  I can look at a part from a gun I have never seen and tell you what it does and probably where it was made and when.

Shooting - I love the skill aspect of shooting, I enjoy the simple act of doing it as well.  I love teaching others to shoot well and to respect the awesome and terrifying power they represent.  I enjoy doing things with them others think are impossible.

Pontificating - It may come as a shock to some but I really REALLY enjoy pontificating.

Is pontificating the same as having sex with popes?

gypsygrl -> RE: What are your passions? (5/29/2007 11:59:53 AM)

textiles--so much so, I don't go into fabric stores, yarn shops and the like anymore because I can't afford it

housework--though I take an academic/historical approach and don't really do much of it.

social and cultural history, esp relevant to women's history, history of marriage and the family, history of sex and sexuality

laundry--no matter how bad things seem, going to the laundromat makes it better
