Did anyone else see the footage of what was happening in Poland yesterday? People were gathering to plan a Gay Pride parade and there where anti-gay protesters who went wild on the people planning the parade, I mean really bashing in their faces. The police were there to keep the calm but did nothing and infact sometimes joined in on the beating.

I saw this as breaking news in the wee hours in the morning, I haven't seen it on the news yet today though I haven't watched much news.
So has anyone watching world news seen this?

I found it very disturbing.

Missy.

That's pretty terrible. It is true that the protestors were denied permission to march, but that doesn't mean that they (police/antiprotestors) should be able to do anything they want. Hopefully nobody will die from this, that always just makes things worse.

As a gay male- I sorta cringe at "over attention".  thank god i live in a country where i am free.

i choose to put no sort of flag or sticker on my self, house or car.  i am human 1st and foremost.

one year the KKK was counter protesting the gays in Chicago. people get fixated on the bed part- no one "turns" gay.

i personally dont want to hear the screaming mary type that annoys.

tho live and let live.

i told my brother how to handle passes. NO. not maybe no. NO. if he is touched in a sexual way after letting the dude know NO!!   THEN 1 good punch and walk away.

no one has the right to violate anyone....  after a firm NO! if touched   1 punch.

the "in your face" "screaming fggt..." --- repels people.  with in walking distance from here a man was beat to the point of a vegatable- over a gay pass. there was booze- who knows how it transpired. anyhow 2 bros beat him silly- the mom and dad lied - the whole family was implactated.

as it tuurns out the guy  from Midddleburg lived- but he was beated into cripple status. i met him.  at 1st i beleived these mean str8 ppl went after him. but now i think- the guy could not handle his liquor and touched when he should have not touched.

when all this went down- i did not know of him to be in the gay cirlce. i called a few buddies. we did not know him.

it truly is ashame that the world can be brutal.

I'm sure that Gays have killed a straight person or two as well, Sinergy. Mathew Shepard doesn't make all of America intolerant, it makes the criminals responsible intolerant. Just like with this thing in Russia. Not all Russians marched, and not all Russians bashed in faces.

If you read carefully, Sanity, you would have noticed I was responding to a statement that as a gay man he can live freely in the United States.

Was simply pointing out that this is not the case.  We have similarly intolerant people in the United States who never learned how to play nice with the other children in Kindergarten.

So then, by your logic, if one Gay kills one straight person, no straight people are free either... right? So long as one Lib is intolerant towards one Conservative... we're all prisoners, or slaves, or whatever. According to you.

You are aware that there are places in this country where being gay is as much as illegal.. that is what the sodomy laws are about.

Are women named Lib less tolerant than the rest of humankind? The old Lib I ever knew was a lovely lady at church. A veteran too, fwiw.

This is not a hijack, take this thread to it's proper destination !

I have learned alo, and I mean alot. I used to have a touch of homophobia. I knew a couple of "fag basher", that is guy who would beat homosexuals for no other reason than that the were gay. Turn them in to the law ? I wouldn't be here today. And I never participated.

However, at the time I was homophobic. We are talking over twenty years ago here. I have done alot of learning since then, and now I have watched one of the gay bashers take the biggest dildo up the ass I have ever seen.

But long ago I didn't want to shake hands, or in any other way touch a gay Man. As if he had cuties or something. Grown up now I realize how irrational that is. And I have learned alot more. Alot more.

Human nature, he fag bashed because he identified with it, and he hated that in himself. Then he lashed out at the source of the stimuli that caused his internal dilemma. That is what people do before they are grown up. They don't understand themselves and haven't a prayer at understanding others.

You see the dislike the part of them that likes it. That is hard to handle. When I hear Women talk about how lat Men mature I would like to smack them in the head, because it takes them just as long. But I have never met a real Man less than 35 years old, and I fully admit I was not at that age.

Anyway, back to the subject and whatever. So they have bashers in Russia, go figure. Bashers are the reason most gay Men keep themselves fit, and they have put a few bashers down in this country. Good.

I am going to jump right through tolerance, and tell you this. I'll go hug Hunkyboy if he can control himself (lol) on my way to Jillian's to get my chastity belt. He doesn't have cuties, so why not. Jillian was born a he, and there is not much chance she can take all the measurments without touching me. That no longer gives me the creeps.

But we all have to think of others. I really do accept Gays now, I have lost my childish ways, but I don't think they should have parades. I can actually understand the part that is actually normal sensibility. When you got a seven year old who asks "Dad, what does gay mean ?". Will you allow that to force you to lie to your kid ? You see there is a different side to this.

But similarly you don't want a 'straight' parade either, then the kid will just ask "What does straight mean ?". Do you think it would be appropriate to have a BDSM parade ? How about ""Mommy, what does BDSM stand for ?".

This is fucking sex. Hmmmm, think I'll just let that stand. Even the most normal Man and Wife relations are kept from the child until he/she grows. So why do some Gays want to flaunt it so fucking bad they piss people off.

I don't know what else to say. What's next, a Domme's march, a people who like enemas march, or to get mundane, a blowjob march. Get what I am saying. Why have a march ?

Trying to garner new members ? Don't do that, it seems they come that way from the factory.

As far as living free, it must be a case by case basis. Long ago when I was working in the factory, One of My best buddies was a gay man, worked in the next station over. Spent a lot of time on breaks loafing on the bench oside the door, as neither smoked and and both were slightly claustrophobic. Pretty tolerant shop overall though, had a gay man, a bi-sexual man, 3 lesbians, and 3 interacial couples......and no problems- not bad for a small shop in an all-white small town.

Never been homophobic, per se, but told the "queer jokes" , as well as ethnic, racial and other demeaning jokes. Ignorance, I guess, as I met people from the groups joked about they began to seem more idiotic than funny. Gonna have to apologize for those, some day, I reckon. Covered the Catholic jokes already, told them to My priest.......he's still chuckling.

What we have to remember is that all those eastern European countries are currently at about 1970 in terms of the west and social attitudes. Its not that long since the old days of the cold war and the repressions their peoples lived under.

Released from those repressions, we find them turning to that old favourite for guidance in difficult times - the Church and its constancy of worldview, which sadly features amongst its worldview that homophobia is not only OK but an obligation.

At the same time, we find that the uncertainty, the turmoil and the poverty have given rise to nazi sympathies across eastern and central Europe, seeking to preserve pride and identity in a world where the first has been lost and the second is under threat. That religion plays a part in this, as both a symbol of national identity and a helpful guide as to who is at fault for the predicament - Jews, foreigners, gays, etc, is important I find.

Whilst comparatively few will act upon these ideas is something to be glad about. That comparatively more will act by comparison to similar dispossessed and disillusioned populations in the west is something to be sad about. Problem in the east being that social attitudes generally are still in 1970, which is something I find out on almost every trip abroad, though never directed at me as a TS, maybe because they dont realise I hope?

Meanwhile, the LGBT communities in the east would prefer it to be 2007. And thats where the conflict comes from perhaps.

What concerns me are two trends which might impact on us in the UK. Firstly we have hundreds of thousands of eastern Europeans moving here to live and to vote, having thereby influence over social policy and lawmaking which may not be in tune with the progress we have made by comparison to their home countries. Secondly we have the dilemna of the Church of England over the ultimatum from the third world branches to dump the Episcopalians over its attitude towards gay people - this is a problem because the bishops all have seats in our upper house and so have influence over social policy and lawmaking too. Its not beyond the realms of possibility that we might see things change here quite markedly, given these two influences.

Heh.....I agree that this is disturbing, but boy do I wish the people / political-landscape here were infused with a similar type nationalism that seeks to preserve the sovereignty /autonomy of the nation-state.

Actually, homophobia is alive and well in Poland.

"A senior Polish official has ordered psychologists to investigate whether the popular BBC TV show Teletubbies promotes a homosexual lifestyle.

The spokesperson for children's rights in Poland, Ewa Sowinska, singled out Tinky Winky, the purple character with a triangular aerial on his head..."

Yeah, sure,  sodomy laws. Written right next to the law against tying your team of horses to the fire departments' steam engine... seriously, thanks for the laugh!
